Obama's new national security advisor called a 'disaster' by Gates

With the departure of General Jones from the White House, America is losing fine public servant and excellent military man. One of the few in Washington who eschewed the limelight, Jones did his job fairly competently and with a minimum of self promotion.

Will we get that lucky with his replacement?

The man picked to be President Obama's next national security advisor was sharply criticized by top officials in the administration, with the Secretary of Defense saying he would be a "disaster" in the job. According to the new book about the Obama administration's handling of Iraq and Afghanistan by Bob Woodward, Pentagon chief Robert Gates expressed deep reservations about Deputy National Security Advisor Tom Donilon, who has been tapped to be the successor to Gen. James Jones.

In the book "Obama's Wars," Woodward writes that, "Gates felt that Donilon did not understand the military or treat its senior leadership with sufficient respect."

"The secretary later told Jones that Donilon would be a ‘disaster' as Obama's national security adviser," Woodward wrote.

The more you read about him the worse it gets. I feel your concern for your son, mine is on pre-deployment orders for Afghanistan. Jan. he goes to Fort Irwin for mountain, desert training, then comes home for pre-deployment leave.

Your son will be in my prayers.

National Security has been the only area Obama was not FAILING.
He seems to be set on “fixing” that, to round out his agenda to destroy America.

Is there that much of a difference between an advisor that gives bad advice to the _resident, and an advisor that gives good advice that the _resident ignores?

And read the first sentence of post #17.

There sure is. It is the perception to the troops. Who has their back? Who in this administration has been in their boots? A lawyer being the intermediary to the military? Especially one who is known for his disdain to those in uniform.

Are the troops really that much in the dark about how bad this administration is for them and the country?

God, I hope not.

Give me a break, they know more than all of us what is going on. We can sit here and whine about healthcare and taxes etc. and they are following orders and sacrificing it all including their lives for an administration that is using them as tools.

With the ROE and obviously no real plan from this administration it most certainly does make a ton of difference as to who is in this position and a political hack lawyer just adds even more stress.

My son’s unit had a picture of Obama hanging on the wall looking like OBL, so yes I would most definitely say they know what the deal is.

Duh, don’t ya know that Everyone associated with the Imam is a disaster for this country and a threat to our freedom? Anyone asking why no one in our country isn’t exposing them??? Surely, the truth is out there; enough to impeach the enemies within.

This appointment plus Obama saying the US could absorb another terror attack like 911, plus his shifting FBI assets at the direction of the Southern Law Poverty Center to hunt down white “domestic terrorists” like Oath Keepers...

It does not look good.

Give me a break, they know more than all of us what is going on.

That being the case, then they must know that the show is being run by a worthless political hack regardless of whether there's a figurehead above him. Have you heard from your son on this issue?

To be honest with you, I tried to dissuade my son from joining until Obama was gone but he did anyway. My middle son is due to go to basic in June immediately after he graduates.

He knows the deal. They all know the deal. He is in the infantry. Like I said they hung a picture of Obama portrayed as OBL. Inspite of the odds they believe they are the best of the best.

Before he enlisted we talked about the oath he was about to take, it was to defend the Constitution, Presidents come and go but the Constitution is the bedrock of our country.
