Catholic extraordinary minister pushes pro-choice position as Congressional candidate (IL-16)
Various | 10-11-10 | Various

Posted on 10/12/2010 8:00:18 AM PDT by Mr. Silverback

Congressional candidate George Gaulrapp has been selling himself as a "conservative Democrat" ever since he declared support for Barack Obama in the summer of 2007. The problem is that like so many operating under that label, he wants to do the "I'm pro-life personally but..." tap dance.

At a recent Tea Party panel in Huntley, Gaulrapp performed this tap dance, but then added something...well, if you'll forgive the term, "extraordinary." Gaulrapp mentions that he is an extraordinary minister, which means he is able to deliver communion to fellow Catholics who are unable to attend mass. To hear his explanation, go to Heartland Radio and listen for yourself, and consider the radio host's commentary. The clip is on the August 29th broadcast (scroll down) and is the first topic in the show.

Heartland Radio broke this story, but my attention was brought to it by the fine folks at Prolife Corner.

George resign your ministry if you cannot fulfill it truthfully. You will hear the Lord say to you one day “Depart from me you worker of iniquity I never knew you.”

George Gaulrapp is from the Diocese of Rockford, the Most Reverend Thomas G. Doran, bishop. (Contact information can be found at the link.)

Thanks for the information. That’s my diocese and Blackelk’s as well. Don Manzullo, the Republican incumbent is pretty solid and is a safe re-election. I actually heard Gaulrapp do some retail politicking in the Cherry Valley Burger King... not impressed.

A look at the opensecrets profile for this race shows that George is toasty-toast-toast.

http://www.opensecrets.org/races/summary.php?id=IL16&cycle=2010

Less than $65,000 raised in a congressional race, compared to over $700,000 for Don. To contrast, in 2008 the Dem (Abboud) raised over $500,000.

"Extraordinary Minister" is not clergy. Clerical states are only Deacon, Priest, Bishop.

The reason that the term "extraordinary" is used, is not because possessors of the title are exemplars, but because a priest, bishop or deacon is the "ordinary" minister. The Extraordinary Minister should be used only in circumstances where a priest is unable to fill the role (e.g. a remote area where there is one priest but 10,000 people at Mass). In the U.S. they are added in many churches for no good canonical reason, often to make communion last six minutes instead of ten, or to have reception from the chalice as an option. I am surprised that Bishop Doran hasn't weighed in on his being a pro-abort pol.

This is not good. He should quietly resign from that role in his parish church. If he refuses, then the bishop should speak to his pastor.

Alternatively, if he is no longer in politics because he is an obvious loser, he could confess his sins, repent, and amend his life. But I think some sort of public declaration should be made, since he has now caused a public scandal.

Thanks. Happilly it’s safe seat for the GOP.

Obama did become the first rat President to carry it in forever but Manzullo is in no danger from this jerk.

Are you sure Obama carried the district? If you look at the map there are two red counties in a sea of blue in northern IL: Winnebago and Ogle. Most of Manzullo's district is in Winnebago County, the overwhelming number of voters are in that area.

“Canon 915, one of the canons of the current Code of Canon Law, forbids the administration of Holy Communion to those upon whom the penalty of excommunication or interdict[1] has been imposed or declared or who persist in manifest grave sin.” Manifest and persistent support for abortion to any degree means excommunication.

And that’s Ogle and Lee that went for McCain. Winnebago was 55% for Obummer.

I don’t think Franklin Roosevelt even carried that district. It’s only had 1 dem congressman (elected in 1990 over a Republican with problems and defeated by Manzullo 2 years later) in modern times.

The pro-abort Chicago archdiocese is seeping into the adjacent archdiocese of Rockford it appears.

The list of Catholic religous in political office is quite large. My friend Sister Marcy Kaptur of the Alinsky/Egan wing left Chicago Archdiocese to be a congressperson from Ohio.

St Hubert’s Deacon Fred Crespo is a State Rep.

I suppose the list could get quite long.

He’ll lose. I posted his campaign funding levels upthread...he’s only raised $65,000 compared to $731,000 for the Republican. In 2008, the Dem raised over $500,000.

I know Obama carried Stephenson County handily. That said, I think it means little. Like many other districts, we saw a ton of first-time or first-time-in-a-long-time voters who were voting for "The One." Most of those folks won't show this time and the remainder will tend to break GOP.

And that's before we factor in that Manzullo won going away in '08, or factor in the fact that he has outraised Gaulrapp over ten to one.

Rockford (the city proper has about 25% of the voters in the district) with it’s black minority turning out in elevated numbers is obviously the reason why Obama carried Winnebago county.

http://www.uselectionatlas.org/

Nice Presidential atlas with the country breakdown (I don’t have the city numbers but Rockford must have voted Obama by a greater margin that the rest of the county, McCain may have even won the rest of the county)

Note that site uses blue for Republican and red for the commies.

I agree. Manzullo hasn’t had a touch race since his first one. He is in no danger.

And that is district is still Republican despite being carried by democrats who win statewide landslides (that’s the only time they carry it).
