Michelle Obama: Giannoulias 'will be a phenomenal senator' (I get to sleep in my own bed tonight.)

First lady Michelle Obama was introduced in the University Club’s Cathedral Room Wednesday to a standing ovation from the approximately 200 donors in attendance.

She hugged Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias, who stood behind her left shoulder as she delivered her speech.

“I am thrilled to be back home in my home town, Chicago,” Obama said. “I get to sleep in my own bed tonight.”

She’ll get to sleep there every night in two years and hopefully much sooner.

An Obama gushing about someone not taking money from lobbyists or PACs is dubious praise at best.

Michelle Obama is a big supporter of a Chicago crook wanting to be Senator, what a surprise.

Noting how long she and her husband have known Giannoulias, a frequent hoops buddy of the president, Obama said, “We have seen him grow.”

Sounds like mafia code for "he's part of the Family."

A “gangster banker” should fit right in with the Illinois delegation.

If there was any justice, she'd be sleeping in Fort Leavenworth, Gitmo or the Hague.

If IL elects this crook to the Senate then it should be against the law for anyone in that state to complain about “crooked politicians” ever again! When people say that I have to wonder if you don’t like them, why do you keep voting them in??

I went to college in Illinois and lived there for about 10 years. It used to be relatively Conservative. Not Chicago, of course. Now the thugs have taken over the state. Very sad. I remember driving home from work along Lake Shore Drive (toward my studio apt in Newtown) when I heard the WLS DJ announce that Mayor Daley had died (1975?). I thought ‘wow, that guy's going to lose his job over that comment’. Chicago has been governed by thugs for a long time. Too bad about the rest of the state. Still, downstate is pretty Conservative, just not Conservative enough to overpower the thugs in charge. Oh, yeah, there's all the Dem cheating, too. Think votes from the dead.

A lot of pundits describe the state as “very blue.” But this is a relatively recent phenomenon, wouldn’t you say? They elected Republican governors (even if they were “moderate”) from 1976 to 1998. If I’m not mistaken, Republicans controlled the legislature for at least part of the time prior to 2002. Republicans did OK when it came to the congressional delegation. Then all of a sudden 0bama runs for the Senate and he was such an unstoppable force they could hardly come up with anyone to oppose him. If IL had been smart and seen through this empty suit just maybe they could have spared the rest of the country from what we’re going through now!

Yes. And what a sleazy way Zero has ascended through politics! Look up how he removed his competition prior to his US Senate campaign. Then read about Jack Ryan, the Republican who was leading Zero until Zero's lawyers got a judge to open Ryan's sealed divorce decree. His wife, actress Jeri Ryan, had accused him of asking her to go to a sex club to watch other couples. When asked about this comment, she said ‘you say all sorts of things to get custody of your kids’. This forced Jack Ryan to drop out of a race he was winning handily. Zero has been a thug from the get-go. Very sad that Illinois and many naive Americans have subjected the country to this MISERABLE FAILURE of a man.

“Giannoulias’s Broadway Bank was seized by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation on April 23, 2010, reportedly as Secretary of Treasury Tim Geithner was on his way to Chicago to present the bank with a bailout check.”

Sleep well, Manchelle.....oh....and don’t wait up for Obama. He has a date-—I mean....he has plans.

Was Ryan really ahead in that race? I don’t remember there being any polls. Hard to believe he would have won in any case. Even if it had not been for that fake scandal I suspect he would not have been able to compete financially so 0bama would have won anyway. Plus Kerry was winning the state easily that year.

I wasn't living in Illinois at the time but my recollection was that Ryan was winning. I still have many friends and relatives in the state. One Conservative friend actually voted for Obama saying ‘the Republican party had to import someone no one knew so I voted for the guy who was actually from here’. The R Candidate was Alan Keyes IIRC and he wasn't living in Illinois at the time.

The very reason that I will not vote for Giannoulias or Kirk. There is an alternative, Dabno is his name.
