Obama Proposes Rebate for Seniors Deprived of Social Security Benefit Hike
Fox News ^ | Oct. 15, 2010 | Fox News

President Obama is calling for a $250 rebate for seniors after the Social Security Administration announced Friday that interest rates in 2010 haven't risen enough to justify an increase in benefits next year to the 58 million retirees and disabled Americans who receive the entitlement.

Congressional Democrats, already in a precarious position headed into Election Day, are heeding the president's call.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs announced that in light of the economic downturn and the fact that Social Security will not provide a cost-of-living adjustment for a second year, the president will ask Congress to approve a $250 "economic recovery payment" to seniors, veterans and people with disabilities.

“Our seniors are not stupid”.

...I don’t disagree with that, but they are scared. My Mother lives in a 62+ community and whenever dems came out with the “Republicans will take your SS, your teeth etc” ads, some of these people got panicky.

Sanders argued that the estimated $13 billion to help seniors pay for "rising health care and prescription drug costs" is a fraction of the $70 billion wealthy Americans would be allowed to keep if Bush-era tax cuts are extended.

I hate these bassturds and their smug sense of entitlement to our money more each passing day.

Nah, we will “blow it” on part of one scrip for my husband’s Parkinson’s meds.

He hits the “doughnut hole” in summer of every year. One scrip costs us well over $300 a month.

Seniors should remember $4 billion to the UN Global Fund. $250 taxable to seniors with no cost of living increase for two years. Woo hoo! Thank you, Barry.

It’s more illustrative of their mindset of their “superior discretion”.

“Oh, yeah, this policy causes a problem with group X, we’ll just make a discretionary allowance or waiver for that group and everything else will be fine.”

The “Chess Piece fallacy” derives from Adam Smith’s description of the person who “seems to imagine that he can arrange the members of a great society with as much ease as the hand arranges the different pieces on a chess-board.”

Just a payoff to those who elected not to live responsibly during their working years.

More scam voter-buying before the election. Given that seniors are far more likely to vote republican, I’m surprised Hussein would even make the phony statement. After all, the death panels were created for the purpose of cleaning out as many conservatives as possible.

Dumb, dumb, dumb. They can keep their measly $250. How many millions is it going to cost to cut all those checks?

Either the cost of living went up or it didn’t. Idiots.

"and people with disabilities"

Yeah; all those getting SSDI for crack addiction, and other trumped-up ailments (shown below)

Included with the check will be a Voting Guide, indicating which boxes to put your "X" in:

Worse: it’s a sign of emerging dictatorship.
Law doesn’t work in his favor? “waiver”.

So King Barry is going to rob from the taxpayers and/or borrow to throw some coins to the peasants again with this “rebate”.

The only place this is going to end is the first hyperinflation that the USA has ever experienced.

This makes me sick, and I hope the seniors will see it for the bribe that it is, and not sell their vote for a measly $250.

I promise, it won't buy mine......There! Feel better now?

A dictatorship, or any form of totalitarianism,

is simply an extension of the granting or seizing of “discretionary authority”,

which is what the left is doing more and more all the time.

The health care bill is a great illustration of this.

Even though they have heard the same old line their entire lives during every election, plus the other lie the rats always trot out, that the dem candidate is brainy and the republican one is stupid.

I'm 65 and I'll get the $250 also and I have lived and voted responsibly my entire life. F.R. has plenty of old coots like me.

Either the cost of living went up or it didn’t. Idiots.

Your second sentence is correct, succinct too!

We both know that the cost of living has gone up. Everything has gone up, I can't think of a single thing that hasn't increased in price.
