I wonder if things were any different about a thousand years ago, probably not, maybe worse with a far lower percentage.

Sexual activity generally becomes an issue only when puberty kicks in. There have been studies of doctors’ records going back to the 1830’s that suggest that the onset of puberty back then was around 17-18 then, and steadily declining to 11-12-13 now. Probable reasons:

1) Gradually better nutrition in childhood.

2) Vaccinations and general better and more scientific health care.

3) There seems to be a cumulative effect. Malnutrition and poor health in your childhood will have effects on the general health of your children and grandchildren. The bad effects dissipate completely only when you reach great-grandchildren.

Sorry I can't provide actual references, but most of this I read back in college forty years ago. Back then puberty usually arrived around 13-14.

Douglas N. Adams wrote this short essay:

"Present somebody with a questionnaire clipboard, and they lie. A friend of mine once had a job preparing a questionnaire for people to fill in on the Web. He said the information they got back was enormously heartening about the state of the world. For instance, did you know that almost 90 percent of the population are CEOs of their own companies and earn over a million dollars a year?"

That would depend entirely if you were on top, or the bottom.

Been here since FDR’s 2nd term, seen a lot, experienced a lot and still wish it was 1957. :o)

Well, you don’t look a day over 40! ;>)

I guess I just misunderstood your post; I thought that you were saying that teens have always been promiscuous.

I agree with your assessment of our slide into the slime we find surrounding us now. It saddens me to know that young people today have no idea of how it used to be on purer times.

Because teenagers always tell the truth, especially about sex!

And 99% told interviewers they don't masturbate.
