Arson blamed for fire that destroyed Mormon church in Mukilteo Washington
The Herald ^ | October 16, 2010 | Gale Fiege

MUKILTEO — Arson is the cause of an early morning fire that destroyed a church building next door to Kamiak High School, fire and police officials said. No one was injured in the blaze.

The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s office, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Mukilteo Fire and Police departments concluded Saturday afternoon that the fire was started outside near the back entry of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building at the corner of Harbour Pointe Boulevard and Chennault Beach Drive.

The two-alarm fire, first reported shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday, has left two Mormon congregations without a place to worship.

Firefighters at the nearby Mukilteo Fire Department responded within minutes, said Assistant Fire Chief Brian McMahan.

I’m still waiting for you to put some proof where your sleezy accusation is moldering. You’re pathetic.

I think you forgot to ping JR to post #38. Ever since Proposition 8 was passed, there's been a faint odor of an impending anti-Mormon "Kristallnacht" in the air. Liberals are just waiting to pounce. Liberals very likely see Mormons as a relatively safe group to attack.

Keeping this "mormon persecution" crap going on FR is not to his liking, I imagine.

[Ripliancum states]

Hating Mormons is sport for many. A ‘crime’ is the last thing they would think of it being.

[Stourme discusses]

1980s in which anti-Mormon protestors outside the Denver temple threw stones and "a firebombing scare was reported.

The reason I bought a 9mm in the 80's wasn't because I was afraid of the gays.

As you well know Rip, we all have our stories....

The world seems to be turning upside down now. The peace loving hippies are now the violent ones.

This fire was obviously done by liberal atheists. The liberal blogs are full of people raging about everything. Just pure hatred. With at least one thread, on a very prominent democrat site polling it's members on their willingness to start an armed conflict with conservatives.

It just fits the pattern. Todays liberals are violent. The church building was burned as a protest against our stance on marriage and homosexuality. (preaching to the choir I'm sure)

Are you out of your freakin’ mind?

No one would want to see a church burned.

This is indeed sad that a church was destroyed and Thank God no one was hurt.

But your idiotic implication is beyond the pale.

How dare you!

And the rest of you on this thread as well.

Saundra see you are buying in to your own hype agreeing with panaxanax, like LadyLawyer who accused Freepers of murder a few weeks ago.

I think you will find that to a man (or woman) like me the so called “antis” would be the first to shoot a SOB who even began to harm a Mormon or one of their houses of worship. To paraphrase R. Lee Ermey from Full Metal Jacket, your little group maybe silly and ignorant but you are fellow Americans and that enough for us to defend your right to do whatever with in the confine of law and our rights.

We want the fight in the court of ideas.

They could start their investigation right here at FR, based on some of the downright hateful posts here about Mormons.

And just like last time you guys tried to impugn your fellow freepers as murderers, this will probably turn out to be a disgruntled Mormon too.

That is a shame. I don’t agree with burning churches regardless of religion. I am assuming there are other ward buildings close by that can absorb the wards until the rebuild (with a modification of schedule of course so the ward is not affected).

Post #12 is right on. I believe that church members should start packing (guns).

- - - - - -
IIRC, it came down from SLC a few years ago that Mormon chapels are ‘gun free zones’. Has that changed?

They make accusations against us, calling us ‘mormon haters’, yet hmmm...where has the hate come from on this and other threads?? Not us, it has come from posts like #6.

They have insider/outsider view of the world where everyone who is a worthy Mormon is part of the family and all others are mere acquaintances, spiritual prey or enemies.

Why is every time there is a crime committed against LDS they conflate us with that BS as if we would ever condone it?

Who is milking? Just stating the obvious.

And btw, I agree with you that it was probably liberal atheists who started the fire.

It feeds their victim mentality which in turn feeds their ‘specialness’ which in turn feeds their self-righteousness, which in turn ‘proves’ to them that ‘the church’ must be ‘true’.

Vicious cycle. Like John D. Lee, they need a scapegoat.

I don’t get that whole everyone is against us crap.

I was listening to a Mormon friend a few months ago and he was telling me about one of the kids in the family and if he will make it, in life.

I said something along the lines of “Well with his missionary background, one of the things they learn is work ethic, so I don’t think I would worry to much”.

He exploded on me and I forget what he said exactly but it was along the lines of people always talking down Mormons.

I immediately was flabergasted but equally pissed and said “Listen, I have been your friend for 20 years and you never heard me say anything about LDS. How can you turn everything upside down and take what is clearly a compliment and find offense in it?”.

“Being a missionary and working 12 hours, plus all the objectives they have to meet while in the field, prepares you for life and you find my observation of that offensive?”

He thought about it for while and did apologize but qualified with “People have always been after the Mormons”.

I said “You guys have a marketing problem, this is 20th century and believe me no one really cares but you guys have to get over you insider/outsider bunker mentality”.

He then said “Well the world is against us”.

I said “You are cracked. Everyone respect Mormons”.

He said “Well, they look at us like were a cult”

I said “I have no idea if you are cult or cooks, but knowing each other for 20 years....”

I then said we should probably forget about it.

And just like that we moved on and watched the football game.
