Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) -- Osama bin Laden and his deputy Ayman al-Zawahiri are believed to be hiding close to each other in houses in northwest Pakistan, but are not together, a senior NATO official said.

"Nobody in al Qaeda is living in a cave," said the official, who declined to be named because of the sensitivity of the intelligence matters involved.

Rather, al Qaeda's top leadership is believed to be living in relative comfort, protected by locals and some members of the Pakistani intelligence services, the official said.

“October Surprise Alert”

That wouldn’t surprise me in the least. That said, for an electorate outraged over inaction on jobs etc., I don’t picture that the capture or death of either of these jokers this late in the game would magically turn around electoral prospects for the Dems. At this juncture, Obama is so lacking in credibility that if anything there might be a backlash against what is perceived to be an obvious political ploy.

What Obama essentially has proven over the past 2 years is that even a massive infusion of new troops into Afghanistan hasn’t sufficed to run down the man that candidate Obama implied could be captured with ease if only we hadn’t diverted resources to Iraq.

In reality, we’d quickly defeated the Taliban early on and Bush never foolishly aspired to building a democracy in one of the most backward countries on the planet. It’s not likely anyone would have thought adding 30,000 troops back in 2003 purely for the purposes of capturing bin Laden would have been a sensible use of military resources.

We pay the Pakis billions in “aid” while they and Iran fund weaponry and C4 for Talibans who use it to kill our troops. The Muslim killing merry go round never stops. It is long past time to kill them all.

He is dead Jim.

They perpetuate this myth for power and money reasons... both sides are doing it.

I no longer believe any statement from anyone connected to our government. Reagan said “Trust but verify”. They lost the “trust” part. Now I just verify. Even on the rare occasion that they actually tell the truth... it is usually wrapped in a lie.

Thanks: The last time I saw a picture of him he looked 75 and was frail. Again: I wonder how a man who looked that bad could make it living in isolation and hiding.

I still say he is dead.

Agree, communism was outlawed in the US in the early 50s and with ISLAM as a political philosophy it should also be outlawed. Shut down the mosques and deport the followers of this human plague.

The ability for terrorists to take state-sponsored shelter in neighboring countries is why Irregular Warfare (IW) operations are so difficult and take so long to come to an end. The last major IW conflict was our involvement in Vietnam which was the second campaign in SEA. Taking both the French and American involvement in Vietnam as a base line IW campaigns can easily last thirty years (1945-1975). That is one of the reasons they are also called “Long Wars”.

Bush never foolishly aspired to building a democracy in one of the most backward countries on the planet

Which planet are you referring to?

Do you mean the Bush who changed the name Operation Infinite Justice because it was insulting to Allah? THAT Bush?

George W. Bush's failures in playing an amazingly strong hand are too numerous to even begin to discuss.

But his idiotic belief that Islam was just one diorama on the "It's a Small World After All" ride through the Disney World of his mind was surely the worst, followed closely by his fantasy that all that savages and barbarians really want are free elections and women's equality.

I disagree. Start with nuking Mecca, Medina and Qum. That would finish the "religion" as it would remove the possibility of the Muzzies to perform the Haj, one of the central tenants of Islam. Then allow the rest of these idjeets to CONVERT or DIE, just as they did themselves to the Hindus. Payback's a b*tch!
