NY Post Endorses Andrew Cuomo for Governor; Candidates Debate Tonight
NBC New York ^ | 10/18/2010

he New York Post has endorsed Democrat Andrew Cuomo for governor, saying it believes he has the "vision to blaze a path to reform.''

The endorsement comes hours before a seven-way debate in the contentious race to replace Gov. David Paterson in Albany.

The newspaper on Monday said it based its endorsement for Cuomo "in the hope, if not necessarily the full expectation'' that Cuomo would become the strong leader that New York state needs.

But the Post said it isn't clear whether anyone currently running for the state's highest office "is fully up to the task.''

It called Cuomo's Republican opponent, Carl Paladino, a man "with a towering temper and a well-documented contempt for the truth.''

The Post said Cuomo was an effective attorney general who understood "the underlying issues of Albany's ingrained dysfunction and the urgent need to address them.''

Cuomo and Paladino have been busy readying themselves for tonight's televised debate as their surrogates continued to snipe away.

Cuomo's campaign released a new TV ad claiming that Paladino would take away rights and that victims of rape and incest would be denied abortions that are now legal.

Paladino has said he personally opposes abortion as a Catholic. He has said that he would advocate against abortion, but changing abortion laws is not a legislative priority. He said abortion isn't an issue in the campaign but is a way for Democrats to energize their base.

Abortion rights in New York are protected by a supermajority in the Democrat-led Assembly.

...but New Yorkers still don't get it.

Shocking, isn't it? (/s)

What did you expect? New York Post employs the pedophile reporters who takes pictures of little girls through their windows. Of course they would endorse Cuomo.

Carl Paladino and Michael Caputo have been working overtime for the past month to make sure that a possible victory would be transformed into a complete bloodbath.

Blaming anyone other than these two incompetent tools for this missed opportunity would be rewriting history.

The fact Paladino faced off vs. one of the Post’s reporters probably had something to do with it.

True, but you have NEW YORK CITY to contend with and that’s going to be the problem. This where MOST of the states’ population resides.

I am wondering if Paladino caused many establishment papers to back away from him with his past brazen tactics.I recently met an elderly woman and her husband who were conservative, but they did not like Paladino. The woman thought he was not a “gentleman” and that he was a “big mouth.” Also, that whole thing with his out of wedlock child seemed to many people terribly hypocritical. Recently, I was disappointed in him when he apologized for his comments about homosexuals, and I am sure there were others who felt the same. I was hoping for a candidate who had the tenacity to face opposition and stick to his guns about issues that many conservatives hold as important. I will still vote for him, but he should not have wavered.

Which explains Fred U. Dicker’s attack on Paladino.

What a disgrace!

You have proof of that serious allegation, right?

If you do, you should forward it to the Paladino campaign, who have had a very difficult time in produxcing a shred of evidence for similar accusations.

I believe some FReepers were adamant that Mr. Paladino’s self-inflicted difficulties were a mark of “character,” and that they would put him over the top.

If you read the WSJ every day you see the msm spin prevalent on just about every story.

One thing particularly tickled me a couple of weeks ago.

The correction..........evidently there had been a discussion on when the Eisenhower jacket came into fashion.

Their reporter said it was following the Korean War and they had to correct that error.

snicker, snort, typical media know nothing elite.

The NYPost sent a photographer to take a picture of Paladino’s ten year old daughter THROUGH HER WINDOW.

How would you characterize that episode?

They're hardly "embracing" Cuomo - they're rejecting Paladino.

Cuomo's positives are below Paladino's negatives - an "embrace" of Cuomo would imply that his positives are increasing dramatically.

That isn't the case.

From the “outside” Paladino sounds pretty much “New York” ~ warts and all. The man doesn’t seem to be any different than the rest of ‘em.

So Paladino claims.

Has he offered a shred of evidence to back it up?

No.

Has the NY Post published any such photographs?

No.

Call me crazy, but if someone actually did that to my family, I would swear out a criminal complaint and file a lawsuit - in other words, throw the book at the bastards.

Paladino has done none of that. All he's done is issue a press release making the claim.

Why?

This is just pure insanity. Andrew Cuomo isn’t going to “reform” anything. He’s a pathological liar and a political grifter in the tradition of Bill Clinton.

Dicker was behind the constant wild eyed claims against Patterson. Even came on the radio insisting Patterson would be resigning in the morning. He did everything in his power to get Patterson out of the picture. Clearing the way for the crook Cuomo.
