Rove: Tea party 'not sophisticated' By: Andy Barr October 19, 2010 12:46 PM EDT
Karl Rove credits the tea party with bringing new energy to the right, but says that when you take a look at the grassroots movement it is not sophisticated.
I meet a lot of Tea Partiers as I go around the country, and they are amazing people, said the ex-advisor to former President George W. Bush in an interview with Der Spiegel.
But structurally, Rove said the tea party has little in common with the Reagan Revolution that has powered the conservative movement for decades.
It was also a well-organized, coherent, ideologically motivated and conservative revolution, Rove said of the Reagan Revolution. If you look underneath the surface of the Tea Party movement, on the other hand, you will find that it is not sophisticated.
It's not like these people have read the economist Friedrich August von Hayek, Rove added. Rather, these are people who are deeply concerned about what they see happening to their country, particularly when it comes to spending, deficits, debt and health care.

That’s why it’s called “COMMON” sense!!!
Rove is the genius behind Harriet Meirs and Free Medicare Prescription coverage. He’s a jackwagon.
“Rove said the tea party has little in common with the Reagan Revolution that has powered the conservative movement for decades...”
...and still would be if he hadn’t help derail it...we’ll put it back on track without your “sophistication”...
The proper context he is correct. It is something you do not have to overthink.
I’d like to hear it in context, but doesn’t sound much different from Barry’s bitching the other day.
We don’t want SOPHISTRY
We want authenticity
Listening to Rush and at the moment there's smoke coming out of my ears.
RINO’s and Elitists get the heck out of our way!!!!!!
Excuse me? Unsophisitcated? We’re sophisticated enough to know when we’re being insulted. And sophisticated enough to know when it comes to the issues that matter.
Karl darling, I may not be as well connected as you nor as wealthy, but I have more sophistication in my little toe than you have in your over sized ego and body for that matter.
I don’t think conservatives or TEA Partiers should take offense to Rove’s statement here.
They are not sophisticated in an structural or ideologically way, especially when compared to those leading the Reagan Revolution.
Having said that, I am sure many will be offended and slam Rove for the statement.
It’s not like these people have read the economist Friedrich August von Hayek, Rove added.
I have. Many tea partiers have in fact. Little book called “The Road to Serfdom.” I preferred “The Fatal Conceit” (I think it was Hayek’s last book).
Rove is a RINO hack. Are we supposed to believe that GOP RINOs have read Friedrich August von Hayek?
If so, why are they still RINOs?
Rove is an enemy of conservatives just like the Bushes are, and GOP leadership is today.
STOP THIS. STOP IT!
DO YOU HEAR US?
I can see November from my tootbrush.
Pubbies, you are dead to me if you ‘compromise’ with 0bama & the Dems. PERIOD. YOU HAVE 1. ONE LAST CHANCE. Uphold your sworn oaths of office or be thrown out on your ears. Uphold the US Consitution.
You may think us born at night, but we were not born last night.
Folks, this is Politico, and Politico wants you to hate Karl Rove. Keep that in mind.
The root of the word “sophisticated” is “sophist.” Folks who talked for money, not necessarily for the sake of principle.
Yes, Karl, you’re sophisticated...
sophisticated = indulges in weasaldom
What an arrogant a&&.
Brother - now it’s clear he DID hold this opinion of George Bush.....and we can see the pattern throughout W’s terms of office.
Getting bad advice on a daily basis.
You worthless little worm. I'd be willing to bet a huge % of tea partiers have read Hayek. They've also read something else, you dim witted potato, they've read the CONSTITUTION.
