Didn’t this happen last week? I wonder why it took so long for it to hit the news cycle.

Perspective. Looks like it could have easily been a mile away from the bridge.

Didn’t go over the bridge. But ... what the heck is a 747 doing buzzing the bay anyway?!

Comical, especially the part about “look at how close it is to the bridge” when it was obviously a half mile behind the bridge. When it flies over even these CNN twits should have realized it was never close to the bridge at all. Idiots.....

Pretty cool. I think it was an optical illusion though.

I don't think the plane was nearly as close as the video makes it look.

But, having said that, if you didn't know an air show was going on, yeah, that would've freaked you out.

“It was an air show, they were trying to promote... you know.. United...so” I felt a “Like, oh my God, whatever...” coming on any second.

She sounds like a feather head from one of those “Good Morning” shows. Her job is to be chirpy, happy and silly.

What a maroon! The 747 didn't even come close to the bridge. Now if it had flown under the bridge, that would have been something to talk about.

Normally, the Bay Area air traffic pattern is from the southeast (for San Jose, San Francisco, and Oakland). If the weather or winds change from their normal patterns, the route reverses and planes have to land from the northwest to southeast. I bet that's what happened here -- this plance was approaching SFO from the north and landed on runway 10 instead of runway 28.

Because it was PLANNED EVENT during an airshow. No big deal, just a flyover. Also, the place where they slowed the video down saying how close it was - it wasn’t close at all. It was probably still half a mile or more away from the bridge still making a turn. When you use a telephoto lens, it greatly compresses the apparent distance between objects.

It was part of an annual air show at SFO. All was cleared and approved by both the FAA and UAL. Chill out folks.

I recall final approach to S.F. International in 1971 on my way to Vietnam. IIRC the end of the runway is S.F. Bay itself, and I remember looking out the right side watching highrise windows going backwards and up as our approach angle was around 45 degrees. Then Kaboomp! as we touched down.

Earlier that year a Japan Air Lines 707 kerplunked into the bay off said runway, no injuries. One newspaper featured the dunked jetliner with the headline “SPRASH!”

Was this article posted by a “Journalist” or someone who delivers coffee?? I can not believe an editor would let this headline stand. With a little fact checking which seems to nonexistent you would find this was a flyby for the airshow in the AIRSHOW performance box by the United Plane. United was a large sponsor to the event as they let the Blue Angles and other aircraft stage out of their terminal for 5 days. At no time did it ever fly OVER the bridge. Believe me, I know, I was there filming. Amateur reporting.

Not sure what you mean by that, but just to clarify ... I saw the clip yesterday on another link. There was no audio and nothing saying that this was part of Fleet Week.
