Kathleen Parker Keeps Her Chin Up (Parker-Spitzer)

New York – In the inner sanctum of CNN, high above Lincoln Center, Kathleen Parker’s office is tucked in the back, a few steps from the outer rim of newsroom cubicles. Inside, she keeps a neat workspace, with political histories on the bookshelf and framed pictures of her family on the windowsill. A stray pair of heels lie on the floor

Parker Spitzer, the primetime program she co-hosts with former New York governor Eliot Spitzer

Their talk show, which debuted earlier this month, has struggled in the ratings. Its main timeslot competitors, Bill O’Reilly on Fox News and Keith Olbermann on MSNBC, have easily kept their spots atop the heap, even though CNN poured large sums of money into a promotional campaign for its new evening keystone. Scathing reviews from numerous outlets have also rattled its initial run.

‘I can’t help but agree with you, although were I to be offered the chance of a lifetime, I might make the same decision.’

She was a nationally syndicated columnist. While it might be a ‘chance of a lifetime’ to you or I, it wasn’t to her.

Anyway, we just agree to disagree on this.

Spitzer and Parker together on their first night at CNN

“I’m not a partisan, and I’m certainly not an ideologue,” Parker explains in our interview. “I got labeled a conservative by the marketplace. I’ve never actually declared myself a conservative.”

So.... why did Klein hire her? If not as a balance to Spitzer and her politics are unremarkable, what audience is she hoping to draw? She certainly can't compete with the women on FOX.

I agree. The show will die because she is milquetoast and Spitzer is too dogmatically leftist. He’s also arrogant and derisive, something with a new journalist can’t afford to be.

Unfortunately her head seems to be a moral vacuum. As usual with these “balanced” talk shows, the left is represented by a corrupt leftist, and the right is represented by a “Why Can’t We All Just Get Along” airhead.

Which is exactly why she got the gig.

It's unwatchable -- the highest form of derision in the medium. And it will be gone -- forever -- by the New Year.

Bad career move for Kathleen. But, after her performance leading up to 2008, she richly deserves it.

“...a traditional voice from a traditional gal,not stridently right...”

###

Ahem.

The more “strident” the better.

We are in a full blown war with professional power zealots on the Left, who take no prisoners.
