I share your optism, and hope cooler heads will prevail. The very existence of the Tea Party movement proves there is a solution, and enough outrage will even awaken the useful idiots.
SIMPLE ANSWER: All voting machines must have a paper trail that prints with two copies of the vote on different colored paper, one for the paper ballot box and one for the voter. If the paper trail in the paper ballot box doesn’t exactly match the machine vote total the machine has been tampered with!

My first thought (with no knowledge) on this subject is: How much does AXELROD know and when did he approve it!
They are in it up to their eyeballs. Imagine O will be hiding out in India. The gutless wonder, wondering if it’s safe for him to fly home.
If the “fix is in,” why announce it? Axelrod is trying to terrorize us.
The soap box was tried for the vote on Obamacare, but our political betters refused to listen to the American people. The justice system was tried in numerous cases to litigate the issue of Barack Obama's natural born citizen status. The judges found that no civilian or military person had any standing to bring this issue to court, so we never even got as far as the jury box.
If the ballot box is subverted, what comes next will be the responsibility of Obama and company.
Is it possible Axelrod just doesn’t understand how many MILLIONS of Americans are watching this very carefully? Is it possible Axelrod just doesn’t understand how many MILLIONS of Americans will be extremely angry if any election results are proven to be “F’ed” with?
The other thing is that in Florida not all votes are done with computers. Many of the counties still use optically scanned ballots. To steal an election in the counting process you would have to get past the canvassing process. Personally I think fraudulent registrations, casting multiple ballots, and exploiting the inherent weaknesses in absentee ballots much more likely. Lower yield, but a lot less risky.
I think that people will protest loudly then will accept that this is how we do things now.
That's what Daley Senior did in Illinois to get John Kennedy elected and he didn't even need a computer.
