Wade Rathke: Chief Organizer Blog ^ | 20 Oct 2010 | Wade Rathke

New Orleans It’s amazing how we become inured to the ridiculous, even when it is abusive and preposterous. That’s my cut on Glenn Beck and his ranting, especially when he evokes me as anti-christ and revolutionary. Over the last couple of years, whenever I would mention the absurdity of it all, too often it would end up on Beck’s show on another whiteboard of whackiness, so I followed Huey Long’s old dictum that there is no real defense for a public attack and let it all run off of me like water off a duck’s back.

When I flew into San Francisco a couple of months I got there just as a crazy was in the news having been arrested in a fire fight with the cops as he was headed to do damage to the Tides Foundation, ACLU and others. He’s now conceded he was revved up by Beck and the Fox News fanatics. I didn’t enjoy seeing my name in those articles either, but what can you do, move under a rock? Nada, me! Not because I’m such a cowboy anymore (I swear!), but the work has to be done, and it’s the risk we’ve always lived with….

Well, my friend, Drummond Pike, Tides Founder and CEO, has had enough of this shit and though generally much, much more mellow than me, has reared back and lofted spit right in the eye of not Beck, the puppet, but Rupert Murdoch, the grand master of Fox, the Wall Street Journal, and more. Drummond wrote an excellent letter that’s getting good reviews asking Fox to stop the hate speech before someone else is hurt or killed, and going one better and demanding that Fox advertisers back away from this insanity before it’s too late. Working with Media Matters and

If he thinks Glenn promotes “hate speech”, he’s more of an ass than I thought.

From little ACORNS, grow mighty Marxists.

Didn’t he just have to resign as the head of SEIU.

Maybe the FBI needs to do an old fashion “mob” investigation of this union.

Well, it seems quite ironic that this Vitamin D deficient little “we will use the power of persuasion...and if that doesn’t work we’ll use the persuasion of power” scum, is crying.
Yet Beck is the one that has to have security and wear a flak jacket in public. HUMMMMMM.

Pike studied Political Science at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and became involved in the anti-war movement of the late 1960s

Founder and President of the Tides Foundation
Director of Environmental Working Group
Views the United States as a racist nation
Opposes the Iraq War

Pike founded the website Egrants.org (now Groundspring.org) to facilitate online charitable contributions to leftwing causes. He also created the Tsunami fund, an anti-capitalist, anti-gun ownership lobbying group. Both organizations have strong ties to the Tides Foundation.

Pike endorsed a May 1, 2003 document titled “10 Reasons Environmentalists Oppose an Attack on Iraq,” which was published by Environmentalists Against War. Other signers of the document included the Earth Island Institute, Friends of the Earth – US, Global Exchange, the Rainforest Action Network, the Ruckus Society, and Working Assets.

Viewing the United States as a nation infested with “structural racism” that limits opportunities for nonwhites, Pike favors a highly progressive tax structure (i.e., one that taxes the rich at much higher rates than the poor) as a necessary means of redistributing wealth. Pike also supports socialized medicine.

Just so happens that I have Fox News on right now. And I will continue watching it for another 10 minutes (11 PM EDT) at which time I will turn off the TV and head for bed.

I won’t be boycotting Fox. Granted, I turn off Shwepp, and don’t watch O’Reilly, but we all have our standards.

I’ve been thinking about this all afternoon and I can’t decide if Glenn has done something that has stirred them up or he is going to do something that has them riled.

Oh, I think he's fixing to do something that might tick them off just a little. Although, he's really pulled the shroud off of their antics for the last year or two anyway. But I think he has something up his sleeve that they will NOT like. Probably already recorded 'just in case'.
