NPR Ends Analyst’s Contract After Comments on Muslims (Juan Williams)
New York Times ^ | October 20, 2010

Posted on 10/20/2010 8:45:07 PM PDT by La Lydia

NPR has terminated its contract with Juan Williams, one of its senior news analysts, after he made comments about Muslims on the Fox News Channel. NPR said in a statement that it gave Mr. Williams notice of his termination on Wednesday night. The move came after Mr. Williams, who is also a Fox News political analyst, appeared on the “The O’Reilly Factor” on Monday. On the show, the host, Bill O’Reilly, asked him to respond to the notion that the United States was facing a “Muslim dilemma.” Mr. O’Reilly said, “The cold truth is that in the world today jihad, aided and abetted by some Muslim nations, is the biggest threat on the planet.”

Mr. Williams said he concurred with Mr. O’Reilly.

He continued: “I mean, look, Bill, I’m not a bigot. You know the kind of books I’ve written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.”

Mr. Williams also made reference to the Pakistani immigrant who pleaded guilty this month to trying to plant a car bomb in Times Square. “He said the war with Muslims, America’s war is just beginning, first drop of blood. I don’t think there’s any way to get away from these facts,” Mr. Williams said.

NPR said in its statement that the remarks “were inconsistent with our editorial standards and practices, and undermined his credibility as a news analyst with NPR.”

The public radio organization said it thanked him for many years of service. Mr. Williams did not immediately respond on Wednesday night to an e-mail seeking comment...

Juan has integrity and speaks his mind. Maybe this will highlight the need to defund NPR in the next Congress. I hope Tea Party activists take this up.

This very interesting, to say the least. Odds are Rush will be talking about this on his show.

Apparently truth is inconsistent with their standards.

Yeah... That's about right.

So, apparently free speech is inconsistent with NPR.

That's pretty much it. NPR's policy is that black people have to love Islam ~ or die.

Not surprising they'd fire Juan for having finally realized that Moslems are NOT OUR FRIENDS.

This calls for some serious defunding!

I actually feel bad for Juan - who is a flaming liberal mind you - but at least now he knows what he’s allowed to do when working for liberals: shut up and tow the party line.

This is good news for conservatives. This makes NPR look ridiculous!

I don’t think this undermined his credibility as an news analyst at all. If anything, it enhanced it.

Your theory may have some substance to it ~ notice they attacked the black guy first ~ kind of an old tradition, but the folks running NPR are your typical Chicago thugs and they ordinarily attack the weakest first.

Mara Liasson might be next. NPR just needs a compelling reason to boot her off their air. I think it’s predicated on the fact that Soros has “bought off” NPR’s reporters for $1.8 million, and told to boycott FOX.

Firing offense: NPR axes Juan Williams for opinions on Muslims & post-9/11 travel
By Michelle Malkin • October 20, 2010 11:44 PM

Un-freaking-believable.

Cable news blogger Johnny Dollar red-flagged NPR media correspondent David Folkenflik’s Twitter feed, which announced tonight that liberal NPR analyst/Fox News contributor Juan Williams’ contract was terminated — over comments Williams made about Muslims on The O’Reilly Factor. He gave his honest opinion: “[W]hen I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.”

Guess who stirred up the pot to get Williams fired?

Think Progress and the Huffington Post:

That’s right. Government-funded NPR has apparently caved into left-wing attack dogs on the Internet.

Also in the lynch mob: CAIR, of course.

As I’ve said many times before: Political correctness is the handmaiden of terror.

Condolences to Juan Williams, whom I’ve debated –vigorously, but always with respect and cordiality — many times over the years.

Hope this accelerates his journey on the ideological learning curve. And I hope he doesn’t back down.
