(wayback) Andrei Codrescu who described the Rapture as *crap* is still with NPR
NPR ^ | 1995 | Andrei Codrescu

Posted on 10/21/2010 2:48:19 PM PDT by Drango

Overview...

All Things Considered commentary derided the belief, held by some Christians, that at world's end all those who are "saved" will ascend immediately to Heaven and the rest of the population will suffer Armageddon and wind up in Hell. Reading from a pamphlet he was handed on the street, Codrescu said that believers in the "rapture" predict that more than 4 million people will depart in less than a fifth of a second. He went on to say that "The evaporation of 4 million who believe this crap would leave the world an instantly better place."

Mr. Codrescu is a Jew so he may plan on working some kind of side deal.

> Juan Williams, he got fired.

LOLOL!!!

Juan was awarded a $2M contract by Fox today.

And the best thing, he didn’t apologize!

CAIR is thwarted.
NPR is thwarted.
They are exposed for the petty little totalitarian villains that they are.

Fox, and by extension the Right, looks magnanimous

Life is good.
:)

Well Juan Williams never apologized. he was honest. His free expression wasn’t to deride anyone, it was just heartfelt truth.

No one should have to apologize for this. It is called being a human being.

This PC crap has to stop. We are human beings and we can’t heal if we can freely share our feelings without the fear of reprisal.

Codrescu is no news personality, nor does he pretend to be.

He is nothing more than an professional academic with an
opinion.

One should be able to disbelive in ‘the Rapture’ if they wish without being vilified. It was the ‘leaving the world
a better place’ phrase that puts Codrescu in the ‘hater’ category.

Secret numbers published only for overseas callers to these NPR call-in shows (be prepared to explain which overseas location you are calling from, and that you listen via internet or sattellite, and that your phone number has an American area code because it is a VOIP - e.g. vonage or skype or magicjack - number which lots of overseas people use to reduce phone bills):

Diane Rehm Show 202-537-7872, Weekdays 10-11am ET

On Point, 617-353-0645, Weekdays 1-2pm ET

Talk of the Nation, 202-513-3305, Weekdays 2-4pm ET

"I'm probably one step away from a 'fatwa' by the Christian Coalition," [Codrescu] says, referring to an Islamic sentencing for heresy.

Interesting choice of words, Mr. Codrescu.

The Coalition's press release charges that "Codrescu described the return of Christ and Christian theology (First Thessalonians 4:17) as 'crap.'
"But Codrescu says his comments were specifically about the rapture, which he guesses is a "minority" belief.

Note that NPR is just supporting his belief that insulting is fine as long as it's a minority you're attacking.

If NPR fired Juan William they should have taken Nina Totenberg out too.

Is Nina Totenberg Next?

".. Schiller said Williams' firing is not a reflection of his comments (on Fox News Channel) that he gets nervous when he sees people in Muslim garb on an airplane. She said she has no problem with people taking controversial positions, but that such opinions should not come from NPR reporters or news analysts.

If that’s true, NPR legal affairs correspondent Nina Totenberg might want to start looking for a new job. Over the past month, in her regular appearances on “Inside Washington,” she has: criticized a ruling of the Roberts Court as scandalous; claimed that Michelle Obama gives people “warm and fuzzy” feelings; called Bill Clinton “the most gifted politician I’ve ever seen;” and lamented that the Democratic Party is diverse enough to include moderates that want to extend all Bush tax cuts..."

This affair is an attack on Fox News. Juan was fired for being at Fox.

Codrescu was born an asshole. He’s all you need to know about NPR: Self-important and less clever than they think they are.

"The evaporation of 4 million who believe this crap would leave the world an instantly better place."

Whatever one believes about Revelations I find it incredible he could keep his job stating that "evaporation of 4 million ... would leave the world an instantly better place".

You missed the memo. You are allowed to crap on the beliefs of Christians and Jews. The Muslims are a protected class however.

Despite the fact that the “extremists” from that faith have killed numerous innocent Americans and many more worldwide, we aren't allowed to insult the very, very thin skinned Muslim community. Even if that insult pertains to actually speaking the truth.

The Muslims can thank their own people for the fact that we may feel uncomfortable around them on an airplane. Instead, they will direct their anger at anybody who has the gall to admit that they don't like sharing a plane with them. Go after the people within your religion that are violent and bloodthirsty. Stop being wimps and demanding punishment for people who point out the obvious. The Muslims are the ones that need to repair their image. Until then, deal with the consequences of the “extremists” actions.
