Time Warner Center statue attracts gropers

Here's the rub.

One package at the Time Warner Center's mall is getting more attention than most from shoppers and visitors alike -- the genitals of a 12-foot-tall bronze nude statue that stands near the complex's entrance.

Fernando Botero's "Adam" has provided a titillating temptation to passers-by at the Shops at Columbus Circle to rub his miniscule manhood as friends snap their pictures.

In fact, there's so much fondling going on that the patina on the nude's nether regions has turned golden, making it stand out against the darker brown of the rest of the statue.

Kind of like that statue of St. Peter in St. Paul’s at the Vatican, with its foot worn shiny from people rubbing it for good luck. Only not so much....

It's St Peter's Basilica, and Pilgrims kiss the foot as an act of veneration. It's not seen as a lucky rabbit's foot.

In Las Vegas, one time, a limo pulled over near Caesars and out came a few lasses who must have been part of a bachelorette party. They did something else to a naked male statue. Passers-by were taking photographs of the ladies. So much for what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

I was in the Time Warner Building a couple weeks ago... saw that statue... I didn’t see anyone touching “it” - maybe the smart ones didn’t want to catch something.

The Juliette (of Romeo and Juliette) statue in Verona Italy in her families courtyard is the same only it is her breast; in St. Peters at the Vatican, the statue of St. Peter is the same but it is his foot.

I well remember seeing a well worn phallus in a Bangkok temple garden. Women came for miles to rub the top as a fertility gift from Buddah

It's not seen as a lucky rabbit's foot.

I think the opposite is true of Henry the Eighth's codpiece on his suit of armor.

For luck in pregnancy, that is.

If they plan to fix this I volunteer to be the “stand in” while repairs are being done.
