Judge Holbrook, whom I know personally, is a very fine man. You may have heard of him before. In case anyone wants to familiarize themselves with him, these might be of interest:

“AN AMERICAN MODEL FOR SOCIAL SECURITY REFORM”

A model for Social Security reform

Libby Newman is a small business owner who stays informed on current events and politics. She's the kind of citizen that keeps the US economic engine running. She's not high visibility like Judge Holbrook, but she's an equally fine person who courageously stuck her neck out to write this letter to the editor. After all, one never knows who might be offended by such a letter and take their business elsewhere.

Kudos to both for their letters in the Galveston Daily News. Tell all the Texas voters you can.

It was a major disaster when Mayor White gave the message. He closed all the Interstate's exits so no one could get off for food, gas or an alternative route. Cars ran out of gas. People are like water, they will follow the path of least resistance given the chance.

The worst part I saw was in the lowered section of Beltway 8, the cars were in grid lock. The level of carbon monoxide was so bad the people were throwing up on the side of the road.

Typical Lib, thinks he knows better then everyone else and manages to make the situation worse.

Others have. Please help get this message out to every Texas voter you can. Remind them that his lousy judgment cost lives.

Help Texas voters to know about the lives lost as a result of his bad judgment. You could influence some votes. Thanks.

Because Village Photos is down so much of the time and may not be displaying the graphic of the letters to Galveston Daily News, I typed the letters and am posting them here:

Horrors of Rita reflect on Bill White

As Election Day approaches, I would like to remind people of what happened in the Hurricane Rita evacuation and why.

The evacuation was scheduled in stages, with those in the most danger leaving first (Galveston). As each area cleared the coast, the next area farther inland was to leave.

All was going as planned until then-mayor of Houston Bill White had a press conference calling for the evacuation of Houston. One reporter spoke up and said, “But Mayor, the coastal communities have not finished evacuating.”

Bill White’s reply was: “Those people are not my responsibility. My responsibility is to the residents of Houston, and I fear that they are in harm’s way and should leave.”

As a result, the people leaving the coast ran into a “brick wall” of cars leaving Houston. People ran out of gas. Some were getting sick with no way for an ambulance to reach them. People and pets died. It was hell on earth.

So please, before you vote for Bill White, remember Rita and the horror that ensued.

Do you really want to elect a man who has so little regard for human life?

Libby Newman
Texas City

Texas can’t afford White as governor

…But the worst action by White as mayor was going on TV and radio and telling all Houstonians to evacuate for Hurricane Rita. That blocked all highways for Galveston, Brazoria and Fort Bend residents and caused the largest traffic jam in the history of Texas. And it caused the death of two of my close friends. That is not leadership, and we can’t afford someone like that as governor.

Thanks for the ping - I had seen this but am glad to see it again. I gag each time I see his ugly mug on the tv blasting Perry and claiming to be the new wonderkid to save Texas!
