Illegal to advertise for a Christian roommate?
Blogger News Network ^ | October 23rd, 2010

Our country has seriously gone off the deep end. Is this for real? Are government officials really doing this?

I have never, to this point, called the extreme leftist ‘progressives’ names or made accusations, no matter how many times they have ridiculed us. And I don’t think I am now…because I mean what I am about to say in all seriousness. I have begun to believe that extreme liberalism is a dangerous mental illness. It’s the only explanation I can think of for this insane behavior.

“Someone had seen the ad – in the church -”

...not surprising. There are plenty of “christians” that go to church and drink kool aid at the same time.

Look on the bright side. When Christianity is outlawed in America, only real Christians will be in church. It’s all part of the plan, separating the sheep from the goats.

No.

And it hasn't been for a long, long time.

Agreed. I was a member of a parish in Oregon, years ago. I noticed, one Sunday that the American flag and the Papal flag were gone from the church. I asked the pastor about it and he said that he received complaints about the flags. He stated that since we were such a diverse community, there was no need for the flags. I basically told him that “the American flag was donated to the parish by the Knights of Columbus, of which I was a member”. I also told him that “I don’t think he wants the KC’s on his back if they found out about his actions.” The next day, the flags were put back up in the church.

You have to stand up to people that are attempting to change our lives and country. If you don’t, you will have to sit back and take what they hand you.

The idea that private citizens can no longer choose with whom they wish to conduct private business had no business being in any civil rights legislation.

I’m not surprised at all. Disgusted but not surprised at how low into depravity and degradation the left has fallen. Punishing good and rewarding evil is now standard practice.

It’s more than just a private citizen choosing with whom she wants to conduct private business. It’s choosing a person who will live under the same roof! As someone who has had many roommates over the years, finding someone with compatible values goes a long way to establish peace and harmony in the house.

I don’t get how the ad is supposed to be worded legally and yet the advertiser can still legally reject an applicant based on religious beliefs. Isn’t that a waste of time for everyone? Why not be upfront in the ad?

I suppose that the ad should have been worded “Christian woman seeks roommate who will tolerate her values” but that almost defies common sense.

There would be no problem, though, with a posting on a mosque’s bulletin board seeking a muslim roommate?

Follow the money and you will get the answer. The people at ‘Fair Housing Alliance’ or whatever the hell it’s called are only trying to make a living. Since legit business has dried up, they will hold onto anything they can find including cases as absurd as this. It’s what the types of Sharptons and the Jackson’s do. Look for the faintest traces of racism or violation of “civil rights” - real or perceived and make an uproar about it. As long as the courts have not been corrupted it shouldn’t matter.

She placed this ad at her CHURCH!

It wasn't in the paper. It wasn't KNOWN outside her church.

BTW, will “gays” prohibited to STOP ADVERTISING IN THE OPEN for a “gay” roommate too? Or are ONLY Christians not allowed to advertise privately or publically for a fellow Christian roommate? See the double standard !

This entire thing is insane, but I wish the article provided more information on the circumstances. Such as, does the lady already have a apartment or house, and is looking for someone to share expenses? Or someone to go apartment or house hunting with her? Does the lady own a house or condo?

But the only way any of this nonsense should come into play would be if the lady is renting more than one unit to the general public, and not merely looking for someone to share expenses for one residence.

What happened to freedom of association? She’s an individual, not a large-volume landlord or employer. Their ability to choose whom they contract with was appropriated by the state several decades ago.

What is the next step? Will you be unable to specify the sex or your room-mate, or whether they smoke?

I agree with everyone here. This is INSANE. It goes to show how “equal rights” is a stalking horse for big government.

Trying to enforce equal rights for rentals, gender, sexual preference, race, color, housing, hiring, food stamps, and of course, health care, leads inevitably to socialism. Someone has to have the power to hand out all the goodies. And that authority would be Obama and his core constituency of low-income non-taxpayers.

“Actually” both are true because they are metaphors. I chose the sheep and goats metaphor (Matt 25:31-36) because I liked it better than the wheat and tares metaphor (Matt 13:24-30).

Only muslims are in the mosques now. My point is that Christianity has always flourished when it is oppressed and “church” isn’t a big building with a steeple. It’s where two or three gather in His name.
