David Frum: A new look at a third party (RINOS ATTEMPTING TO THWART TEA PARTY) (BARF ALERT)
National Post ^ | 2010-10-19 | David Frum

Posted on 10/23/2010 1:57:32 PM PDT by rabscuttle385

Republican political strategist Mark McKinnon – veteran of McCain and Bush presidential campaigns – acknowledged in an interview with David Frum that a third-party presidential effort for 2012 was not far off, and hinted at his involvement in one.

In the podcast interview, McKinnon, who was discussing his recent Daily Beast column “A Centrist Manifesto”, lamented that “there’s nobody that gets rewarded for bipartisan behavior, [and] in fact they get punished.” To that end, he said, “there is a very real possibility for a legitimate third party effort for 2012 … American voters are so hungry for more voice, and more choice.”

While reluctant to discuss the matter much further because announcements are forthcoming, McKinnon did let on that he was at least somewhat involved:

I’m reluctant to talk about [how a third party run would emerge] because I’m involved with some things that are happening that just haven’t been announced… it’s way more than gum-chewing. The appetite is there. Part of the problem is that there are some legal problems in the way. But there are some people working very hard to make sure that there won’t be those legal hurdles in the way… so that anyone who wants to run can run in 2012.

McKinnon suggested that an announcement related to such a third-party effort was on its way within the next few months, by “March at the latest.”

(snip)

McKinnon remained loyal to President Bush, saying that “I fully embrace and believe in the whole concept of compassionate conservatism, and I think we made great achievements in the area of AIDS funding and education reform.

I think we need a new "moderate" party.

It would draw from GOP RINOs and DemocRAT "centrists."

Should split the left-wing vote quite nicely.

I'm not seeking a third party. I want the Republican Party to straighten itself out so that it deserves my vote. I hope that a powerful Conservative wave in 2010 shows the GOP in which direction they must move.

However, if over the next two years, the Republican Party shows itself to be spineless and too willing to make common cause with the Leftists among the Democrats, then I will resign myself to being a Third Party man.

The problem is that the RINO establishment doesn't want anything to get straightened out.

They would rather you shut up, turn around, bend over, and keep taking it...and look like you're enjoying yourself!

It depends on how aware the average American remains. Obviously there has been a big awakening in the last couple of years... and I'm counting on the people staying awake, and not going back into a bipartisan self-hypnotic moronic zombie-like slumber.

If they stay awake, then yes, a "moderate" 3rd party will only attract demomorons and rinomorons and the rest of us (potentially 55% of the country) will remain united against both the dems and the "moderates".

The GOP hasn’t been getting donations, they don’t like ‘We the People” having a voice, it kinda threw them. I had no doubt all along - newt, mitt, the huckster, rove and crew have been working behind the scenes - to maintain their boys club and keep their power.

It’s an ‘Anyone but Sarah’ endeavor. So we can expect someone to come on the scene with promises galore and many will be swept up in the deception. It worked for the ‘rats.

It seems there is an "October surprise"
every day from Romney and his Team against conservatives and Gov. Palin.

Fact: The McCain/Palin ticket was up ++4 to 10 pts. in some polls, days prior to the election.
So rather than helping the GOP, Romney and
TeamROMNEY decided …… to attack Gov. Palin to throw Election2008.

"Frum was indeed a critic of Palin, calling her nomination a "huge mistake" during an October 13 (2008, weeks before the election) Early Show appearance."

David Frum: "Two of our most plausible candidates for president in 2012 are leading Mormons: Mitt Romney and Utah governor Jon Huntsman."

David Frum: "I have a lot of regard for Mitt Romney as a man and politician… I will support him without qualm."

Late in October, The American Spectator's The Prowler revealed:
"Former Mitt Romney presidential campaign staffers…
have been involved in spreading anti-Palin spin to reporters, seeking to diminish her standing after the election.
'Sarah Palin is a lightweight, she won't be the first, not even the third, person people will think of when it comes to 2012,'
says one former Romney aide…
'The only serious candidate ready to challenge to lead the Republican Party is Mitt Romney.
"Some former Romney aides were behind the recent leaks to media, including CNN, that Governor Sarah Palin was a 'diva' and was going off message intentionally."

The Palmetto Scoop reported: "One of the first stories to hit the national airwaves was
the claim of a major internal strife between close McCain aides and the folks handling his running mate Sarah Palin."
"I’m told by very good sources that this was indeed the case and that a rift had developed, but it was between Palin’s people and the staffers brought on from the failed presidential campaign of former Gov. Mitt Romney, not McCain aides."
"The sources said nearly 80 percent of Romney’s former staff was absorbed by McCain and these individuals were responsible for what amounts to a premeditated, last-minute sabotage of Palin."
… aides loyal to Romney inside the McCain campaign, said The Scoop, reportedly saw
that Palin would be a serious contender for the Republican nomination in 2012 or 2016, which made her a threat to another presidential quest by Romney.

"These staffers are now out trying to finish her off ….hoping it would ingratiate themselves with Mitt Romney."

"Who's the Palin Leaker from the McCain Campaign?
National Review Online The publication of a Vanity Fair profile of Sarah Palin
appears to have opened old wounds in the McCain campaign.
... the source of the “Diva” leak was Nicolle Wallace’s husband."

"Peeking Out From the McCain Wreckage: Mitt Romney"

"Someone's got to say it: IS MITT ROMNEY RESPONSIBLE FOR OBAMA'S VICTORY?"

"Vanity: Team Romney Sabotaged Palin and Continuing to Do So?"

"Romney Supporters Trashing Palin"

"Romney advisors sniping at Palin?"

Last time we fell for the third-party scam the country ended up with BJClinton (William=Billy Jefferson Clinton) and the gays infiltrated the central part of the Republican party.

That resulted in the 2006 loss (as I recalled).

No, Frum and his little friends can go do whatever they want, but don't pretend they are Republicans or Conservatives.

We all know about Frum, but this McKinnon bit is fascinating.

McKinnon, the lifelong Democrat activist who used to work for Paul Begala—but then hooked up with W for the 2000 and 2004 campaigns and McCain in 2008.

What’s he about? Funded by, say, a Soros, looking to toss a Perot in to 2012 in order to help Obama? More Bush family shenanigans, as we know Jeb wants to run in 2016? Then there’s even the Mittster, whose MA handlers have been saying they are taking him moderate in position for 2012.

It’s of course laughable that we need more RINOs to keep spending down, I don’t know how they can even claim that without themselves laughing out loud. But someone is funding him good and early, before there’s reason to believe that the GOP won’t end up with another moderate, say Mitt Milquetoast, for 2012.

This is clearly what would please a DLC-style Democrat (which one might argue Bill Clinton, W, McCain, Frum and McKinnon all are), and if the belief was that it would re-elect Obama, of course what the radical left would want as well. So what are the possibilities? A Hillary/Mitt fusion ticket? Nah, even Mitt’s not selling out for number two.

Or, is it meant to be the RINOs’ counter-threat to the tea partyers saying they might splinter off if the GOP doesn’t get serious?

I really don’t know, but something is up.

There are two things that come to mind here.

1.

The conservatives (including “social” conservatives) have been, for the last 35 years, the majority of the Republican Party. Because that wasn’t always the case, we have been like the horse, who doesn’t realize that we are larger than the “master” because we are shorter (lean on leadership positions) and get our carrots and apples from them. They have done whatever has been necessary for us to not realize our size, and to accept their role as master. They would rather lose elections than have the roles reversed, which is why they NEVER got too excited about Reagan.

2.

In negotiations of any kind, you never want to cede ground before the other guy. Over the decades, we have from time to time, talked about going third party (Bob Smith, Pat Buchanan). This time, with the Tea Party, we didn’t blink. We have numbers of participants, and we can take over, over time, in numbers. Now, it’s the Crists and the Murkowskis and Frums who are going independent and third party. They blinked.

Why now? Because when conservatism takes over the Congress after “compassionate” conservatism and McCainseyism lost the House, Senate and Presidency, the argument of meeting radical leftism with conciliatory centrism is GONE.

In light of the above, I believe the John B. Anderson Party should be formed. He is the shining prophet who foresaw the future of RINOism.

Frum and McKinnon are Vichy Republicans of the lowest order, I recall vividly that Frum repeatedly stabbed Sarah Palin in the back along with some of McCain’s own advisors.

McKinnon worked for McCain with the caveat “if you attack Obamao, I’m leaving” and leave he did, but McCain’s Campaign never really did go after Obamao.

Start a third party...do it, I still recall John Anderson in 1980 handing the election to Reagan.

His manifesto, McKinnon said, was based on the idea that, although it’s difficult to for many who are derided as RINOs and squishes nowadays, “the Republican Party needs all the RINOs and squishes we can get in order to reestablish ourselves as the majority.”

Sigh. Well, that explains a lot.

Saved the best for last?

Perceptive.

Like O'Hatch saying he is more conservative than Bob Bennett, reelect him in the 2012 primary or he and all his dinosaur GOP buddies will become Murkowskis.

With bucks going to individuals, the old time GOP are, as we write, looking at their contributions and gauging their futures.

McKinnon was a lifelong Dem operative who surprisingly announced after the 1996 election that he was out of politics—only to reappear as a W man for 2000. That sure looks to me like a guy who is really still a Dem operative in deep cover. There are so many of them now that they are simply known as RINOs, but it’s useful to remember what they’re really up to.

There were a lot of those lifelong Dems that became W men in 2000. In addition to McKinnon, there was Matthew Dowd. In the 1980s, Dowd worked for Sen. Lloyd Bentsen(D) as well as Bob Bullock (GWB's Democrat mentor). He then moved on to Bill Clinton(D) and Dianne Feintstein(D) campaigns in 1992, then worked a couple of Texas campaigns(D) for statewide office. He became a W man in 2000.

A few years later, he became a chief strategist for California's ultimate RINO, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Arnold hired Dowd at the same time as he hired Steve Schmidt -- both coming from GWB's White House. This was right after Arnold had hired Susan Kennedy, a lesbian Dem operative who had worked with Dowd on the Clinton/Feinstein campaigns, as his chief of staff.

The enemy within is large.

David Frum tells a Bold faced lie in the first sentence.

MARK McKInnon is NOT A REPUBLICAN.

Marky is a hard core Austin Lefty who Bush hired for the 2000 and 2004 elections.

Marky let his employee had over the Bush debate tapes to Gore's team.

Marky is a registered leftist Dem and worked for Ann Richardson and other fellow leftist politicians.

Why are frauds and liars like Frumm and McKinnon allowed to peddle this BIG FAT LIE.

Old Marky left McCain because he was lefty and supported Obama !

I am sick of intentional fraud being peddled in the State media.

RUSH needs to out this scam on air that is pushed by McKinnon .

I never heard that one, thanx for putting up ...... So Ahnuld is pressed between a left-wing female chief of staff in the office and Maria Schriver at home?! No wonder ....

Is the Clinton/DiFi sapphic Kennedy one of the Hyannisport Kennedys? Then of course there's also the former --what? AG? -- who ran for statewide office back when. Governor? She's a Hyannisport Kennedy.

Just how many of the Kennedy clan are infesting California politics?

Just wondering how bad it gets ....

Barry Commoner ran that year as a Socialist -- he was their Ralph Nader that year. He ran on such themes as, "let them keep ownership of their property -- we'll just regulate control away from them", and all the "progressives" were hissing at him to "shut up -- don't give the game away!!" Of course, that is exactly what Ozero and his orcs have done in office; they and their mob have been planning this for 40 years at least.

Commoner got a risible vote, but it all whittled away at Mr. Peanut.
