Sephardi leader Yosef: Non-Jews exist to serve Jews
Jewish Telegraphic Agency ^ | October 18, 2010 | anon

JERUSALEM (JTA) -- Israeli Sephardic leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef in his weekly Saturday night sermon said that non-Jews exist to serve Jews.

“Goyim were born only to serve us. Without that, they have no place in the world; only to serve the People of Israel,” he said during a public discussion of what kind of work non-Jews are allowed to perform on Shabbat.

"Why are gentiles needed? They will work, they will plow, they will reap. We will sit like an effendi and eat," he said to some laughter.

Yosef, the spiritual leader of the Shas Party and the former chief Sephardi rabbi of Israel, also said that the lives of non-Jews are protected in order to prevent financial loss to Jews.

"With gentiles, it will be like any person: They need to die, but God will give them longevity. Why? Imagine that one’s donkey would die, they’d lose their money. This is his servant. That’s why he gets a long life, to work well for this Jew,” said the rabbi, who recently turned 90.

An audio recording of some of the rabbi's remarks was broadcast on Israel's Channel 10.

The American Jewish Committee condemned the rabbi's remarks in a statement issued Monday.

"Rabbi Yosef’s remarks -- suggesting outrageously that Jewish scripture asserts non-Jews exist to serve Jews -- are abhorrent and an offense to human dignity and human equality,” said AJC Executive Director David Harris. "Judaism first taught the world that all individuals are created in the divine image, which helped form the basis of our moral code. A rabbi should be the first, not the last, to reflect that bedrock teaching of our tradition."

Chicago Hebrew said words to that effect ages ago (when I was posting earlier ravings ... er, I mean sermons) of the esteemed Rabbi Yosef. He said that Rabbi Yosef was too old, and not mentally fit. However, he does have great influence and a high position.

It is an attitude of long standing in some small circles of Judaism.*

It is the attitude of just about every secular elitist, with a bit of tinkering as to the definition of ‘goyim’ or ‘gentile’.

*I will bet the Sephardic communities in places like Morocco or Libya do not put this on their homepage, lol!

“Shame on him. He should know better than to preach slavery, even in jest.”

As I understand the doctrine, it is not of slavery per se, so much as it is of servitude and second class status. More like apartheid or Jim Crowe with diminished and inferior rights rather than chattel slavery where one is property.

Theologically, I wonder how this school of thought deals with jubilee?

I dunno the particulars, but I'd bet a fair sum that this guy, and many of his followers, are "takers," sucking up benefits from "makers," i.e. productive Israeli Jews.

IOW, he's probably not being honest about only treating non-Jews as slaves and donkeys, who's purpose is to allow him so sit on his fat ass, but in fact and practice casts Jews (who aren't among his followers) in this role.

The embarrassment is almost worth getting the AJC's panties in a wad.

Personally, I'd have preferred a talk on Mashiach conquering the world militarily and "the nation that does not serve you will perish." But that's just me.

Ah, well, what can we say? Even those of us who are staunch Pro-Israel Conservatives just KNEW if people looked long enough they’d find a few morons living among the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. And so they have...

Truth be told, “Goyim” do not exist to serve Jews. In fact, both Gentiles AND Jews ultimately exist to serve Yeshua, the Messiah. But this message hasn’t quite penetrated the Sephardi Leader Yosef’s heart and mind. I pray that it does — soon.

Shabat Shalom, Yosef.

The following is from my copy of Rabbi Yishai Chasidah's Encyclopedia of Biblical Personalities, from the section on `Amaleq:

[Amalek] asked [his father Eliphaz the Yeminite], "Father, who will inherit This World and the World to Come?" "The Children of Israel," replied [Eliphaz]. "Go out and dig wells for them and fix roads for them. If you do so, your share will be with the lowly among them and you will enter the World to Come." But [Amalek] did not do so. Instead he set out to destroy the world (Yalkut Shimoni, Beshalach 268).

Something to think about.

Ironically, Rabbi Yosef is Sefaradi, and some anti-Semites actually regard them as "authentic white Israelites" (as opposed to the "khazar" 'Ashkenazim), so they really shouldn't object.

Then again, considering that many anti-Semitic "identity" nincompoops not only have this very same attitude toward "non-'Israelites'" (in fact, even worse; the "identity" Nazis don't even believe non-whites are descended from Adam or are human beings at all), they really have no reason to open their mouths. Of course, this won't stop them.

Is Noach, Noah in the English? That opinion is totally flawed. Cain left the area and married some gal in the land of Nod to the east of Eden. Cain has his own genealogy.

Cain's wife was his twin sister who had been born along with him in the Garden. What, you one of those people who believes there were other human beings around other than those descended from Adam?

Genesis 4:22 says "the sister of Tuval-Qayin was Na`amah." She was thus the daughter of Lamekh, the descendant of Cain.

One opinion is that this is the Na`amah that Noach married. Another is that Noach's wife was named Na`amah, but she wasn't the same person as Tuval-Qayin's sister.
