Susana Martinez Best Choice for Governor (NM-R!)
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | October 24, 2010 | ABQJournal editorial staff

Posted on 10/24/2010 8:15:35 AM PDT by CedarDave

The combination of cronyism, corruption and profligate spending in recent years has left New Mexico mired in serious problems ranging from budget to education to security of state pension funds as we prepare to go to the polls.

It is time for a clear change of direction in New Mexico, and Susana Martinez, the Republican candidate for governor, is the right person at the right time to deliver it.

With a background as district attorney in Las Cruces, Martinez is a Santa Fe outsider equipped with the skills to cut through Roundhouse fog and effectively communicate her positions. These are important strengths when facing an entrenched bureaucracy and a Legislature dominated by the opposition party.

An administration led by a fiscal conservative at a time when more budget cuts will be required should provide balance to a Legislature that has seldom seen a social or pork program it doesn't like.

It also should bring some control and sanity back to state boards bent on making major societal changes that could send job creators packing to more stable regulatory environments.

Regarding the state budget, Martinez proposes no growth "until our fiscal house is in order." She would start by slashing the number of exempt positions to levels at the end of the Gary Johnson administration, collapsing the number of boards and commissions and auditing state government to eliminate duplication, fraud and waste.

After yesterday's Journal endorsement of the entire Republican congressional slate, this was somewhat expected. However, its nice to finally see the press ante up to the corruption of the Richardson/Denish administration. Susana is pragmatic but a pitbull when it comes to crime and corruption. She's ahead by double digits in the polls but with the history of Dem corruption in NM, you have to be that far ahead and take nothing for granted.

but with the history of Dem corruption in NM, you have to be that far ahead and take nothing for granted.

In 2008 richardson, stood at a rally in northern New Mexico and promised obama 110 percent of the vote............it was not a joke.

They have been that blatant.

I am honestly very positive on this election, if the abq journal did not have polling leaning very hard conservative, they would never have made these endorsements.

Yeah. This from a state that elected Bill Richardson as Governor and repeadly sends Jeff Dingaman (mis-spelled on purpose) back to the Senate. Used to live there. Never voted for Dingaman. In OK with Inhofe and Coburn.

Even the rat press recognizes when the gig is up.

They are just trying to rehabilitate their reputation so they can mislead the public for the 2012 election.

The Santa Fe New Mexican endorsed Denish this morning saying:

“But effective revenue-raising will take real leadership — and that’s a big reason Diane Denish should be our next governor.”

Code words for more taxes — right, just what we in NM need.

Hopefully she will pull some ABQ area Dems and Independents to vote for Jon Barela for Congress. He’s been the target of some false ads, like the lady who said she depended on SS for her income. Besides Barela not saying he’d take it away, it turned out the lady was doing quite well with a house with an indoor swimming pool (mortgage paid off) and a retired husband with a good pension. Turns out their income was $45,000 which is higher than the state’s median income.

Thanks. My gut feeling is that Martinez wins by 7 points. And that takes the fraud into account.

Had to laugh when the Denish ads attacked Susana for being ‘una tejana’.

Horrors! Calling her a Texan because I guess the fact that Texas has created more jobs in the past couple of years than the rest of the states combined is somehow something the people of New Mexico would NOT want?

As we know Texas does it with low taxes and less regulations. Again I guess NM businesses would NOT find low taxes and fewer regs attractive, right?

Meanwhile Denish trots out the same tired old “for the children, the schools, i.e., unions (which based on their results should be fined instead of supported) and families”.

Getting the Sec of State office is important, we haven’t won it since 1928 (not a typo).

Good point. In NM, the SOS nominee is Diana Duran, a state Senator and former Otera County Clerk. I hope she wins as part of a sweep.
