Mondale on Obama, and how he could've beat Reagan
Salon ^ | Oct 24, 2010 | Steve Kornacki

Republicans are already celebrating their comeback — and promising an even bigger year in 2012.

Oddly enough, Walter Mondale knows exactly how they feel.

His party's obituary was written by the press after the 1980 election, when Ronald Reagan capitalized on stagflation to score a 44-state landslide over Jimmy Carter. Just like Obama, Reagan came to power with enormous expectations and soaring popularity — only to watch it all melt away in his first two years on the job, thanks to a brutal recession and double-digit unemployment.

The only way that Mondale could have been Regan was by being someone other than Mondale. Mondale is a looser! That's why he lost.

In a mirror of "bite me" Biden he was only on the ticket in '76 because Jimmy Carter is such a thin skinned egomaniac that he wouldn't tolerate anyone of substance...

Reagan's popularity did take a hit. The difference is that Reagan loved America and had confidence in Americans. Americans knew it and trusted him as well.

Obama hates America and scorns Americans. Americans know it don't trust him as far as they could throw him. Big difference.

Well that Seals it! For Democrat Marxists it isn’t Results... It’s Feelings and Intentions no matter what the outcome is.

Obama would have beaten anyone at this day and time. Simply because of the brainwashing that has taken place in America.America felt the need to repent over something it had not control of and it will eventually show. Slavery has been going on for 2500 years and still goes on in a lot of places in the world today. American have been brow beaten by the press and a phony government. Most of the discrimination in America today is against white folks and that is a fact. I have stated on here before those responsible for presenting facts have covered this up for 40 years or more and white America is to lazy or afraid to confront the situation. The facts concerning the Justice Department cover up is proof positive and this did not start under Obama! The NAACP and the Congress of the US are the biggest racist in America.

With a Louisville Slugger. Maybe. If they tied Reagan down to a chair.

Yep, if you'll recall it was Mondull who was going to inherit all of the votes for the ‘Wellstone’ senate seat in MN. ‘Win it for Paul.’ That didn't work out too well, either.

You don’t know the half of it. It’s sickening to see how much money federal agencies are giving away based on racial politics.

Everyone focuses on Congress, but the real giveaways are taking place every day right under your noses.

http://www2.ed.gov/about/inits/list/whhbcu/edlite-index.html

Federal personnel policies are even worse. If you are not of a protected species you have a huge target on your back. And even if you disagree with the policies, you cannot risk going against the powers that be because diversity is now included in some supervisors’ performance evaluations, meaning if they do not hire enough minorities they are penalized. And somehow it is all construed as being legal.

Yeah, Reagan was SO unpopular during his first two years in office. In fact, he was so unpopular that the American people retaliated in 1984 by giving him a majority of the vote in 49 of the 50 states.

It’s for these Salon moonbats to put down the crack pipe.....the American people loved Ronald Reagan, and he fixed the mess he inherited from that fool Jimmy Carter.

Thanks paudio. I remember a joke from year one of SNL; it was a quiz show set in the future, maybe Jeopardy (I think it was the Fran Tarkenton guest hosted episode), the question was, which US president committed suicide, the answer was Walter Mondale.

The only way Mondale could beat RR is if four strong Men held Reagan for the purpose. Obama would need the same and a set of brass knuckles, or maybe a golf club if Mrs Woods gave him a few lessons.

Well maybe Obama should hire Bob Beckel to run his re-election campaign.

I think the only state that didn't go REAGAN in 1984 was Minnesota.

I find it hard to believe that Obama could EVER get 49 states.

Yeah, maybe if he’d taken New York. Then Reagan would’ve won by forty-eight states.
