School district candidates oppose term 'democracy'

Several school board candidates in the Alpine School District are earning parental support for wanting to eliminate the use of the term 'democracy' from the district's mission statement.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports a small group of parents has been protesting Alpine's mission statement, which says it is "educating all students to ensure the future of our democracy."

The parents want to scrap the word democracy because they say it is contrary to a strict interpretation of the U.S. Constitution, which describes the nation's government as a republic.

They also object to four value statements that back up the mission statement. The values are drawn from the "Moral Dimensions of Education," a philosophy developed by longtime education scholar John Goodlad.

"He is anti-family and pro-socialist," said Oak Norton, a Highland father and one of the leaders of the group. "The school district is tied to a national agenda which I feel is detrimental to our children and their families."

Richard Young, dean of the education college at Brigham Young University, said Goodlad's writings are being "misconstrued." Young, who is a friend of Goodlad's, said the scholar emphasized in his later work the importance of families in children's education.

"I've never read anything (of Goodlad's) that promotes either socialism or communism _ in fact just the opposite," Young said. "He promotes and believes very much that we need to help children in schools today learn all the skills that are required to become good citizens in our current form of government in the United States."

I agree with these parents. The first step in the slide towards communism/socialism is away from monarchy/republic into democracy. The Founding Fathers loathed democracy in the same way we today loath fascism.

As has been said many times:

A democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what they were going to have for dinner.

A republic is a well armed lamb contesting the vote.

This is so GREAT!!! Attack the Cultural Marxism at local level....I am going to do the same here.....Look for the code words....Values Clarification....Goals 2000...."partner"...Heather has two Mommies (Biological lies have no place where truth and logic is taught)...

People have been led into socialism because of ignorance. It is about time that people are no longer silent. I am a little mad at the "Greatest Generation" for not being vigilant about our institutions that allowed the Beat generation to unleashed their pornography onto our children. The politicians, courts, foundations are all derelict for allowing the Freudian-Marxist garbage to pour into our children's heads and in all media and schools. WF Buckley pointed out all the collectivist, anti-God garbage at Yale when he was only 22 years old in 1950 in his book, God and Man at Yale. But it was vilified in the Alinsky manner.

This junk was inserted into the curricula by John Dewey and those Progressives....They snuck it into curricula by using euphemisms like above. People didn't understand the moral relativism they were putting into the curricula to promote Atheism and promote sexual promiscuity which the conformity in Prussian school settings created the sexual revolution. It was intentional.

They are destroying all morality, natural inhibitions and modesty through sex education and promoting homosexuality which is another way to expose them to perverse ideas. It corrupts young children and makes them think in ways they were not designed for......undermines all religions and morality and makes experimentation more likely.

Look up stats. Since they introduced sex education into the classroom instead of 4 percent of girls having sex before marriage, it is now 70 or higher. Sex education destroys the parental bonds and respect in families and is usually followed by drug use. They teach it in connection with moral relativism (like the Beats....if it feels good, do it).

Catholic schools always separated the sexes in 7 and 8th grade because of modesty and respect for that modesty and dignity. (Marxists want there to be no difference between the sexes so they pretend there is none so that they can destroy the family unit--biological connections create the most happiness and loyalty to individuals and feeds their independence. Marxists HATE individualism and want to eliminate the dignity in man and biological relationships.)

Schools teach sex in a way that makes it a meaningless act and gives it no dignity--cheapens life and the fetus. Creates low self-esteem and makes women into a commodity who eventually become depressed and bitter and keeps men in a juvenile frame of mind--they never grow up and become responsible human beings if they fall for the indoctrination. They are the obamabots.

Savagesusie is right, but the American people remain hopeful about “their democracy” and the “progress” of liberalism.

"He promotes and believes very much that we need to help children in schools today learn all the skills that are required to become good citizens in our current form of government in the United States."

That is EXACTLY what a MA judge told people (his delivered decision) who brought suit over the teaching of homosexuality in grade school. Only he dictated it is the schools responsibility, and parents have no say. Beware of these crafted words.

Hardly anyone uses the term “our democracy” more than did GWB. And look where he took us! But his two Supreme Court appointments are better than O’Connor and Kennedy.

I am sick of the liberal education establishment as anyone else, but I can think of a lot more important things to fight against than the phrase “our democracy”. I think this is silly.

FYI - Dr. Alan Keyes article (August 10, 2010) - (USA IS a "democratic republic"...however, NOT a "pure democracy".) (below, emphasis mine)

"Almost all conservatives profess greatly to admire America’s founders. They also declare their allegiance to the Constitution of the United States. Yet some are also vocal in their condemnation of “democracy”, and their conviction that the United States is not a democracy but a republic.

When stated with proper precision, I understand and agree with this view. Sadly, such precision is rarely in evidence these days. This was not so when the Constitution was written. Then it was commonplace to refer to the form of government that characterized the United States as a democratic republic. This acknowledged that the people as whole represent the sovereign power by which the government is ordained and established. The provisions of government are expressions of the sovereign will of the people. In this sense, the constitution is democratic in principle, as contrasted with monarchical (one person wields sovereign power) or oligarchic or aristocratic (a favored few wield sovereign power.)

The term republic refers literally to the public things, things that belong to everyone, including those who happen to be in the minority with respect to any given decision or action taken by the people as a whole. To call a government republican means that its laws and actions take account of the common good. They are rooted in a disposition to treat all people rightly, ..." (more from Dr. Keyes)

Mao Zedong agrees with you as well. The Chinese Communist Party loathes the idea of democracy and will never allow their Republic to have democracy, they say it leads to “mob rule” and hence they gave us Tiananmen Square when the little people decided to stand up and question their government. Communists despise democracy and believe that ultimate source of authority is the state, and certainly not We The People.

If you dread the idea of having democracy in your Republic, places like Cuba and China would be ideal for you.

Only useful idiots shoot themselves in the foot. The only thing that stops creeping sharia is the democracy that enshrines the U.S. Constitution. Ignorance of creeping sharia is no excuse.

... so, families exist to serve the education establishment ... can't see anything socialistic about that ...
