US Refutes South Korean Media Report About Naval Exercise

The U.S. military has refuted South Korean media reports that Seoul and Washington have called off plans to hold a major joint naval exercise in the Yellow Sea this month, because there were no such plans.

A spokesman for U.S. Forces Korea told VOA Monday that no such exercise was set for this year. The spokesman said there is no exercise to cancel.

The Yonhap news agency quoted South Korean government anonymous sources Sunday as saying an exercise involving a U.S. nuclear-powered aircraft carrier had been postponed to avoid tensions on the Korean peninsula during the upcoming G20 summit in Seoul.

There was no official confirmation of the Yonhap report.

The U.S. and South Korea have been holding a series of joint military exercises as a warning to North Korea after the sinking of a South Korean warship.

An international investigation concluded that the March 26 sinking of the Cheonan with the loss of 46 lives was caused by a torpedo launched from a North Korean ship. Pyongyang has called the report a fabrication.

Heads of state of the world’s top 20 economies will meet in the South Korean capital November 11 to 12. The leaders are expected to discuss an agreement to reform the International Monetary Fund so that emerging economies such as Brazil, China, India and Russia get more control in decision-making.

Finance ministers and central bank governors from the 20 nations announced the agreement on the issue Saturday, on the last day of their conference in South Korean coastal city of Gyeongju.

Looks like many on this board were right on, Obama chickened out and is now bowing militarily to China.

This guy for the first time has surrendered the principles of free navigation on the high sea. I might be wrong, but I think he is the first President to do this since WWII.

This isn’t a duplicate, this is a denial that there was even an exercise planned.

HOW WEAK

I heard Obamas handlers canceled it because some ship called the USS Bush was involved, and he took that as an insult.

I would have expected something like this out of a government like Iran, not out of the US.

Iran “Israel? There isn’t any such thing, never was”

US “Exercise? There isn’t any such exercise scheduled, so therefore it isn’t canceled”

OMG -> idiots in the West Wing

From the link in post 10:
This situation was further complicated when a North Korean midget submarine sank a South Korean corvette on March 26, 2010, killing 46 sailors. In the aftermath, Washington and Seoul announced a series of naval exercises to demonstrate resolve in the face of North Korean aggression while China refused to condemn the attack. It was initially reported, on June 1st, that those exercises would take place in the Yellow Sea, which separates China and South Korea, and would involve the USS George Washington, the most advanced aircraft carrier in the US Navy.
So what exactly was announced in June? is someone lying? /rhetorical

The US will conduct joint naval exercises with South Korea in the Yellow Sea, the Pentagon announced tonight as the two countries revealed measures to increase pressure on North Korea over a torpedo attack which sank a Southern warship.

...

Barack Obama ordered US forces to co-ordinate with their South Korea counterparts "to ensure readiness and to deter future aggression" by North Korea, a spokesman said.

Oh ... those exercises

Infidel, you are sadly mistaken. THAT was a clever ruse intended to make the North Koreans THINK we had exercises planned.... but we never did, I swear by Allah!

Did not you get the message, the military is rushing to the Atlantic to raise the formerly named Titanic. Obummer has wanted a ship named after him, so he has decided to have the Titanic renamed after him. He failed to understand that it was a the bottom of the Ocean. He could not understand that it was unsinkable, so he thought it would help his sinking popularity to have the Unsinkable Obama going around the coasts to show how that Obama has used the stimulus money to raise a ship. Since he can no longer raise if for Michelle, he figured that if the Navy shoved down millions of dollars and Viagra the Obama will rise from its oceanic grave.

This man’s incompetence and systematic undermining of our national interests is disgusting. Of course, Obama’s insane deficit spending and attacks on our businesses are rapidly making the US a wholly owned subsidiary of China, inc. He must do what the shareholders in Beijing want.

I hope they get a lot of anarchist demonstrators from other countries who have no clue how much the Korean National Police Riot Squads savor their jobs.

I was there for three years as an MP officer, so I got front row seats to a lot of demonstrations where the KNP would be outside the fence, and we'd be just inside.

Some of the best shows were at Dankook University, which was just across the road from Hannam Village, a leased US family housing community for NCOs and junior officers on accompanied tours.

On one occasion a group of bandana-wearing students lobbed a lit molotov at a formation of KNP. By some miracle of glass, asphalt and physics, the bottle didn't shatter, but skittered along the pavement toward the KNP. One of the officers merely stopped it with his boot, picked it up, and threw it right back at the group of students who quickly scurried away from the point of impact...
