(CNN) - As Election Day gets closer, the rhetoric gets more intense, interesting and, shall we say, passionate. Here are some things you might have missed.
Miller? Miller? Miller?
Ben Stein - famous for his role in the '80s movie classic "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and his political/economic commentary - took to the pages of the Alaska Dispatch to blast Tea Party-backed Republican Senate candidate Joe Miller, calling him a "dangerous, stupid clown."

Keep an eye on what Republican Stein is backing for 2012, obviously he is working for that Republican now (or Obama) by smearing Joe Miller this way.
I can’t stand Ben Stein.
What is up with Stein? betcha Romney.
The redoubtable Lisa Murkowski? Tells ya all ya need to know about Ben’s perspective.
Here is a link to Ben Steins comments.
The guy is an absolute retard.
My guess Mitch Daniels....he HATES social/Christians Conservatives, as does Stein.
Another person I kinda liked who has attained S-list status.
No real conservative would be as popular with the media as Stein is.
Next on my to do list:
Do not read any more Ben Stein articles....check!
If any one is a clown just take a quick look at Lisa’s droopy mouth and you begin to laugh out loud... she is the saddest person to ever be photographed.
Thanks for the link...should have done that myself, and got side-tracked.
Miller: You know he’s over the target and making an impact by the volume of flack he’s getting.
Bingo! Hating Christians has become the pasttime of the gutter elites and that includes Mr Stein.
Why does he care about Miller or Murk? Why does he get involved in an Alaska race? He doesn’t know either of them.
Why is he trying to save the Senate for the Dems??
Or is he trying to save the “Republican establishment”?
Is he just working to help defeat Palin? Working for a 2012 candidate?
I want to find out!!
I’m glad he (Stein) came out of the closet
think about this, wehn so many are about to lose their jobs, theones leaching off them will die off too, he is just another fighting to keep his money coming, just like Rove
Weird. Well, however this all turns out, at least we've identified the false-flags among us.
Its a real time-saver, knowing where these guys stood when it counted. I won't have to waste time on them in the future.
This election will be remembered by me, mostly for who was smoked out as RINO scum. Stein, Rove are only the last two smoked out.
Yes, and his father, Herb Stein, was Nixon’s, Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors. The liberal, tax and spend, Stein, was one of the principal reasons that Nixonomics failed. Ben is just following in his late father’s footsteps.
Same here. He's not only unfunny but wrong on this matter.
Miller is going to win this race. You can feel it in the air up here; don't even worry about the close polls.
Stein’s truly a whack-job. I read his monthly “diary” on American Spectator just for the sheer nuttiness. His hypochondria, his endless problems on airplanes and in hotels and restaurants, his improbably-named dogs (Puppy-Whuppy, for God’s sake!) and best of all, his weird son, Tommy.
Makes sense. Nixon was AWFUL. Privately anti-gun, started the EPA, and bloated many other ones.
Tommy was a disaster waiting to happen. Talk about spoiled rotten. I haven’t read Ben Stein’s diary in years - wonder how Tommy turned out.
Ben thinks Al Franken is alright so what would you expect!!
Truly, it’s worth reading for the laughs. Tommy turned out just like...Tommy. Stein doesn’t write about him much except to say he married a “beautiful” girl and the two of them sometimes show up at his home at 3 or 4 o’clock in the morning, lol.
Al Franken is an ASS CLOWN and Ben gave him money and supported him!!! OMG!! If AL FRANKENSTEIN can be a Senator, then ANY HORSE’S ASS can be!!
Tommy was WEIRD?? He always talked about what a great kid he was.
If you are a FNC watcher, BOR, Brit Hume, Bernie Goldberg also.
Ben Stein has been in the crapper since the financial meltdown when he went stark raving stupid...barking in favor of the bailout. Rule #1,never trust this prog.
I used to read Stein’s columns in AS and was amazed at his whining. Has his horrible spoiled kid killed anybody yet?
Stein IS a whack job. His son Tommy was a trainwreck, but both genetics and training made him that way.
It must be bad if he doesn’t write much about him. He was obsessed with the kid. What got me was that he knew that he was ruining Tommy by letting him have his way all the time, but he said he couldn’t help himself.
The diary used to be riveting when detailing the sorry story of Tommy. There was the video-addiction that caused him to be sent to a military school, the destruction of Stein’s beach house which Stein repaired himself, apparently wearing an apron like Jim Bacchus in “Rebel Without a Cause,” the purchasing of an expensive car for little T in which the two Steins drag raced on Sunset Boulevard, incurring the wrath of the L.A. police.
Talk about watching a train wreck! How could I take Stein seriously on anything after that?
Stein is(or at least was) a big time pro-lifer, and also made a film against the theory of evolution, so I don’t think he hates social conservatives. I have no idea what motivates him, to be honest. Truly an enigma.
You obviously haven’t seen his documentary, Expelled.
Nope I haven’t. Is he supportive of Christians in it?
Is he social conservative or just an economic one like lots around here too.
From what I've seen, Stein likes to hammer on things that (according to him) ought to bug people. In the actual article, Stein hits Miller on three counts:
1. Miller's bodyguards roughed up and hand-cuffed a reporter and took his video camera.
2. Miller spoke of East Germany as a good example of effective border control.
3. Miller is refusing to answer questions about his past.
Let's grant that Stein may be leaving out context and such ... but if Stein is correct on the basic elements, he's right to be bugged.
He's angling for the number two spot on a Franken presidential bid. Vote Franken/Stein in '12 :)
Here is a link to the Internet Movie Database about Expelled. You can read the reviews. Stein really attacks the establishment’s refusal to consider any theories other than Darwinism, such as Intelligent Design. I liked it. Watch the trailers. You can watch it on netflix, it is on instaplay. I believe that some of the professsors he defends in the documentary are Christian. As to whether he specifically defends the Christian beliefs, one could argue that he is only defending Jewish beliefs. I can’t say for sure.
Thanks so much.
I am aware of IMDB. But I was hoping for your take.
He doesn’t sound like a person who would support Christian conservatives.
Stein is something of a political enigma to me; because in spite of how he is generally viewed in the public and by the media, he was the spokesperson in the best produced-for-the-mass-market documentary on the scourge of Liberal political bias and orthodoxy in science - in academia and in academic related research - titled “Expelled - No Intelligence Allowed” (2008).
