President Obama Heads into Midterms at Lowest Approval Rating of Presidency (UNDER 40: 37%)
Harris Interactive ^ | Monday, Ocotber 25, 2010

Posted on 10/25/2010 12:33:14 PM PDT by kristinn

President Obama is spending the next week crisscrossing the country in support of Democratic candidates before this year's midterm elections. While the president may do a great job of energizing the base, he may not be able to convert any Independents who have yet to decide for whom they will vote. Currently, two-thirds of Americans (67%) have a negative opinion of the job President Obama is doing while just over one-third (37%) have a positive opinion. This continues the president's downward trend and he is now at the lowest job approval rating of his presidency.

These are some of the results of The Harris Poll of 3,084 adults surveyed online between October 11 and 18, 2010 by Harris Interactive.

It's perhaps not surprising that nine in ten Republicans (90%) and Conservatives (89%) give the job the president is doing negative ratings. What may be surprising is that one-third of Democrats (34%) and Liberals (33%) also give him negative ratings, as do seven in ten Independents (70%) and six in ten Moderates (60%).

Americans who give the president the highest positive ratings are those with a post-graduate education (48%), a college education (47%), and those living in the West (42%). On the other end of the spectrum, almost three-quarters of those with a high school education or less (72%) and two thirds of Midwesterners (66%) and Southerners (66%) give the President negative marks on his overall job.

While the president is at a low point, there is a political body with ratings much lower than his. Just one in ten Americans (11%) give Congress positive ratings on the job they are doing while nine in ten (89%) give them negative marks. While Congress may be under Democratic control, even four in five Democrats (81%) give them negative ratings.

Part of this negativity may have to do with the way Americans believe the country as a whole is going. Just one-third of U.S. adults (34%) say the country is going in the right direction while two-thirds (66%) say it is going off on the wrong track. While not close to the low it was before the 2008 election (11% said things were going in the right direction), this is one of the lower points of this year.

If the Democrats hold the Senate, probably a 50/50 chance right now, Obama will declare victory and say the the American people have rejected the Tea Party.

He's stupid, but he's not that stupid.

Sounds like he is still holding onto the 37% yellow dog democrat base that elected BJ Clinton to two terms and that supported him throughout his impeachment and professed to pollsters that they ABSOLUTELY believed that he did not have sex up until the moment that he said he’d lied to the public.

37% is a lie.

all that campaigning is really paying off for him. he needs to cut out the public appearances and play more golf. things went better for him that way.

Heard a talk show host discussing this last week.

He said someone from the President's staff was on tv declaring that the tea party can only proclaim victory if they sweep the house and senate AND take the majority of governors’ races.

That same staffer was asked what victory would be for Democrats and he was unwilling to offer any barometer of success. He said he'd have to think on it or something.

Obama IS that stupid.

Those on the right that don't like him now will hate him after the election crushes his presidency and the lefties will be just as disgusted because their great majority went poof in 24 months.

There's the 24 month thing again.

DEMOCRATS HAVE CONTROLLED BOTH HOUSES OF CONGRESS SINCE JAN. 2007 -- NEARLY FOUR FULL YEARS.

AS OF TODAY THE RATS HAVE HAD CONTROL FOR 1,392 CONSECUTIVE DAYS.

I watch CNN and MSNBC to see what the enemy is up to and they constantly use phrases like "when the Democrats took control of Congress in Jan. 2009."

They say this to give the impression that the Dem's haven't been in control that long and need more time before the public condemns them, and also to try to Blame Bush easier.

However, if you're in charge of something for four years and things are in shambles it's much, MUCH harder to blame the other side.

He's stupid, but he's not that stupid.

Not at all. Look at who would have to lose for the Democrats to hold the Senate. O'Donnell in Delaware, Angle in Nevada, Miller in Alaska. All Tea Party candidates. Obama knows he can buy off / intimidate the RINOs. He believes that the only thing stiffening their spine is the treat of being primaried out of existence. If the math from the election works out RINO = Victory, Tea Party = Defeat that threat will no longer exist. He will expect Collins, Snowe, McCain, Graham and probably Kirk from Illinois to be fighting to be the first to cross the isle and sell out our side.

In WWII when FDR died Hitler rejoiced thinking that the alliance would break up allowing him to win. Anyone with half a brain would have realized that an alliance so close to victory would never break up. But a Narcissist can convince himself of almost anything. Their absolute certainty in their own powers will allow a Narcissist to twist even the most tangential bit of good news into a plan for total victory. The reality of the plan is irrelevant. They will cling to any bit of hope in order to avoid facing reality, which is what the Narcissist fears most.

Yeah, that’s pretty dumb. The reason it’s dumb is because if we don’t re-take the Senate this year, we’ll re-take it in 2012.

I doubt 0 wants to be perceived as someone who’s grasping at straws or hanging by strands.

But that’s the perception he’ll give if Nov. 2 is a blowout and he reacts in a “well, things could have been worse” manner.

When you’re at the stage of “well, things could have been worse” that means you’re playing defense.

And you don’t win elections (this one or the next one) by playing defense.

I know who long the Dems have been in the majority.
The point in my statement is that it took their new president joining them int he power clan to crash themselves over the last 2 years. This election is more of a referendum on him than anything else.

I'm doing a project for a local physician whose sister-in law is a county commissioner and has similar obsessions with herself.

His recent description of her as a classic narcissist is pretty much spot-on with what you wrote. While she has the intelligence and capability to do the job quite well, every entity, board, panel or foundation she touches, is in short time, in absolute turmoil. But regardless of the havoc she wreaks, she then runs to the press with grade-school quality accusations about others while at the same time glorifying herself.

“These are some of the results of The Harris Poll of 3,084 adults surveyed online between October 11 and 18, 2010 by Harris Interactive. “

This is a pretty large sample compared to some. Many national samples are around 1,500. Stands to reason that the larger and more accurate the sample, the better the polling...

“What about the Newsweak Poll that they have been touting on PMSNBC? That one had Ozero’s approval over 50%.”

I love that. 1 poll in the last 100 - and it’s such a nasty outlier it would make any stats prof blush to include it in a regression...

What the rats are doing is trying to paint the narrative that the Republicans have moved so far right that they are now out of the mainstream, the fact is the American people have rejected Obama’s radical socialist agenda. The GOP better start saying that or they run the risk of allowing the LIE being perpetrated by the LEFT to sink in. Don’t let the left redefine the middle....

Thanks kristinn. The steady downward spiral as Zero circles the drain evokes faux puzzlement from the many partisan media shills who play at being analysts, but are engaged in carrying water for the Demwit National Committee.

The biggest question on my mind is why is it that the majority of people with less college education are the only ones who see this schmuck for what he is?

How can the “educated” people be taken by such a charlatan?

You hit the nail right on the head. When his people lose and the democrats flee he will throw a tantrum that will turn the heads of even the most staunch believers.

Watch for some truly un-presidential childish tantrums, fits of rage and finger pointing.
