Iran training Taliban fighters to use surface-to-air missiles

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan

Iranian military advisers have been training Taliban fighters in Afghanistan on the use of surface-to-air missiles, a potential game changer in the war if insurgents can use such weapons effectively, several current and retired military officials told The Washington Examiner.

"We know the [Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps] has been training Taliban fighters in the use of surface-to-air missiles," said a military official in Afghanistan with knowledge of the situation. "As of the moment it is uncertain whether the Taliban has access to the weapons systems necessary to utilize this training against the coalition."

That is the key question -- whether the Iranian government or other supporters of the Taliban have so far supplied the weapons necessary to conduct significant attacks against U.S. or coalition aircraft in the region, military sources said. The Iranians reportedly possess Chinese portable surface-to-air missiles of the type that would threaten coalition aircraft.

now now if we turn Tehran into beaded glass the the UN will write a strongly worded letter the russians will bluster and do nothing and China will volunteer for “peacekeeping” in the oil fields.

Just another example of the empty weapons embargo on the Iranian govt.

Wonderful. Of course with the speed Obama is abandoning the mission in Afghanistan they better deploy the Chinese stingers while there is still time.

Also: Nice move China selling weapons to Iran that were 100% certain to end up in terrorist hands. The US is only a gentlemanly rival to China. Is it worth this strongly empowering Islamacism to give us a black eye or make a few bucks? In 20 years I think they will know for sure.

The only way to truly learn how to use a SAM is to practice in caves.

Iran is fighting a proxy war with us and that’s no secret. One of my sons caught an Iranian guy in Iraq when he was on patrol once.

No doubt many of our dead are the direct result of Iranian interference. I say we teach them a lesson with some Howitzers.
