Iowa will see a barrage of potential presidential candidates travel to the state as the November mid-term election approaches.

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney will travel to the state on Wednesday, while Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour will travel to the state later that afternoon. Both Mr. Barbour and Mr. Romney are possible presidential candidates in 2012.

The Republican leaders are traveling to the state as part of an effort to build name-recognition in the state as they support Republican gubernatorial candidate Terry Branstad.

Among those also campaigning for Mr. Branstad include Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty. Mr. Pawlenty will travel to Iowa on October 31. Mr. Pawlenty was in the state just two weeks ago. Mr. Pawlenty has spent upwards of $74,000 in Iowa this past quarter, including the hiring of key staff, which is seen as preparation of a presidential run.,

It's going to be a crowded field, it looks like. Mostly RINOsaurs too.

I like Barbour, but he would be a sitting duck. Pawlenty wouldn’t fight vote fraud in his home state and Romney Republicanism is why we are in this dreadful fix. Why doesn’t Huckabee get over to Iowa and campaign for releasing murderers?

I think most Freepers feel Romney is a RINO, and obviously the proprieter doesn’t like him much, judging by the anti-Romney splash postings that he ran for six months *after* the election (or, perhaps it would be more fair to say 3.7 years before 2012.

Is Barbour a RINO? Why?
Is Pawlenty a RINO? Why?

I’m not necessarily saying they aren’t, but calling them that is the kiss of death to their campaigns, at least on FR.

Aside from Saint Sarah, who would you like to see run who isn’t a RINO?

No, Barbour has his good points. I’d take him over the other two, who I can’t find anything good to recommend them. Fingers in the air don’t fly with me.

I’d take Barbour over Palin. Not the other two though. But Palin has about as much name ID as one could ask for, for good or ill.

I'm not sure what you expected Pawlenty to do in the Franken case. Close elections ae decided by judges. That's the system in place in his state, and most others.

It's frustrating as hell, I know. We lived through the same stuff in Washington in 2004 in Gregouir vs. Rossi. I can see both the attorney general for the state and the secretary of state injecting themselves, but it's hard for me to imagine what the Gov can do. Recall please Jeb's recusal in Bush v. Gore.

If you see Haley Barbour losing weight, then he’s in the hunt.

I haven’t seen that...and I don’t think I will.

So, stop the Haley RINOsaurs crap, already.

He’s not a RINO, as evidenced by his governance of Mississippi.

Is Barbour a RINO? Why? Tough as nails. Too southern?

Palin/Barbour. We wouldn’t have to vote the Dems would all kill themselves with violent spontaneous head explosions ... we’d win by default.

RINO train on the move I see. After Nov 2, derailing all RINO trains is priority two. Priorit one is keeping TPA candidates from boarding any and all RNO trains that they will be tempted to board!

About the only thing these three can do in Iowa is to film a three stooges remake.

End it, don’t mend it. These people need to go away IMO.

I’d take Barbour over Palin.

Do you think America would elect someone as old, ugly and Southern accented as him? LBJ got there via assumption from VP after Kennedy was killed. We seem to be stuck on handsome and youthful, or at least trim and senior-statesman kinda looking. Even Carter was a runner when elected. (Not much of one, though.)

Obama - young, thin, fit, handsome to many (not me...)
Bush - youthful 50, fit, mountain biking, classic leading man looks when elected.
Clinton - youthful, light Arkansas twang, charming bad-boy appeal to woman.
Bush1: trim, athletic, “normal” looking
Reagan: former model and actor, handsome, could have played president.

I’m certainly not saying this SHOULD be a requirement. And the fact he’s Gov. mean a lot of people could overlook it. (As they have with Christie who is quite fat!) But I think many woman vote for the good looking guy. A woman I know with both a PhD and Law Degree (both from top schools) who was 55 at the time told me she liked Edwards “because he’s a good looking guy”. She’s a very smart lady in most respects, but she wasn’t joking about this.

Also, isn’t this part of Palin’s attraction? She certainly the first POTUS candidate that the male half of the country might have fantasies over. Ferraro, Shirley Chisholm and Hillary didn’t have beauty on their side.

I used to think only woman were influenced by looks, but I think a lot of men are too after watching the Palin phenomena. (I am not saying this is all she has going for her, either. She’s got a lot going for her, but she is definately WAY above average for looks, you have to admit.)

I’m sure she’s spending part of her 100s of 1000s on the consultants for a debate coach as well as folks to teach her about geopolitics. Won’t do any good though. By 2012, America will be quite done with novelties, I reckon.

Well, if you were swayed by Obama and Clinton’s “good looks”, I can’t help ya.

How did I jump the gun when Haley was mentioned, and you seemed to include him in the RINOsaurs?

Maybe you needed to explain your post in a better way?

The key word was “mostly”. Followed by my comment to another poster that he wasn’t a RINO.
