BAGHDAD Saddam Hussein's foreign minister Tariq Aziz was sentenced to death by hanging Tuesday for persecuting members of Shiite religious parties under the former regime.
Iraq's high criminal court spokesman Mohammed Abdul Sahib did not say when Aziz, 74, would be put to death. The death sentence was for a conviction on charges of taking part in a Saddam-led campaign that hunted and executed members of the Shiite Dawa Party, of which current Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is a member.

Oh well.
Justice!
Buh bye!
probably more like pay-back
Wasn’t this guy the only Christian in Saddam’s government?
That’s what justice is.
I don’t know if he was the only one but he was/is a Christian.
Privy to the Slaughter. An obvious Right Hand Man.
He deserves to die a painful death whatever Religion he subscribes to.
Just because you’re Christian does not make you immune.
Just because you’re Muslim does not make you a martyr.
Just because you don’t believe in the aforementioned does not mean you are exempt.
If you add them all up it equals KAOS...
Tariq Aziz coolly smoked a cigar while Saddam wept hypocritical crocodile tears of his enemies, who were then taken out of the theater and shot in the street.
I saw the video of Saddam and Aziz.
He was Saddam’s right-hand man / henchmen during all those years.
Who gets the glasses?
Hmmm. He seemed fairly civilized. But playing ball with Saddam gets your hands dirty.
I thought he met the end of his rope long ago.
Trivia:
He was sentenced to death for persecution of Islamic parties in Iraq.....
Yes. This death sentence is for persecuting Muslims.
He was previously convicted for the execution of the merchants, etc.
I believe he's in communion with the Vatican as a member of the Chaldean Catholic Church...remember him meeting secretly with the Pope back while we were trying to capture him?
He's also famous for criticizing the Big B.O.'s withdrawal plan.
Most of us would like to be hung, but I doubt if we’d want to be in his position.
He had plenty of opportunity to bail out of that hell hole.
Good decision.
Old kings can come back to haunt you.
Garfield finally gets his..........
“They said you was hung!”
“And they was right!”
I thought Iraq had a law that prohibited the execution of anyone over the age of 70.
.......Old kings can come back to haunt you......
That lesson must be learned in America and bears repeating.....
Old kings can come back to haunt you.
Old kings can come back to haunt you.
Old kings can come back to haunt you.
Old kings can come back to haunt you.
Old kings can come back to haunt you.
Whatever happened to Bagdad Bob? Did he get off the hook? So to speak. I guess lying to the press is no crime, heck they lie to us. If he was in Sadaam’s ruling party I would imagine he committed heinous crimes.
Yep. A Chaldean Catholic.
Aziz! Light!
......Whatever happened to Bagdad Bob?....
He is alive and well, writing copy for Gibbs’ daily briefings
lol. I was thinking that too.
It’s strange but I seem to remember Tariq Aziz was on the news a lot when I was a kid. Sadaam was sort of a “new” figure (after the first Gulf war) but it seems like Aziz had been around for ages. Maybe I’m misremembering.
They said you was hung!
And they was right!
Every line in that movie is quotable. A masterpiece!
Civilized and working with Saddam don’t mix.
He is now living in the United Arab Emirates with his family.
When asked where he had got his information he replied, “authentic sourcesmany authentic sources”. He pointed out that he “was a professional, doing his job”.
He is perhaps best remembered for his his final broadcast in which he agitatedly declared that US troops were defeated and committing mass suicide at the gates of Baghdad, and that there were “no US tanks in Baghdad”, all while al-Sahhaf’s camera clearly showed several US tanks maneuvering through the city streets behind him less than a mile from his position.
My sympathy level for Aziz = zero. Bring on the rope.
If it was a secret, how would you know about it? Aziz met with Pope John Paul II for 30 minutes on 14 February 2003 prior to the start of OIF and the entire world; except you apparently, knew about it.
Being a member of a church will make you a Christian about as fast as sitting in a garage will make you a car.
He did. He turned himself in back when the deck of cards was issued, and the US military told him he wasn't on any "Wanted" lists.
Last I heard, he was hosting a talk show somewhere in the UAE.
You could say that. He's living in the UAE with his family.
Specifically the Shia after the failed attempt to overthrow Saddam after the Gulf War.
Sammam, Aziz and other members of that gang went on to do horrible things to the Shia, including draining the natural wetlands in the southern part of Iraq.
Getting close to a much needed R&R....LOL
Ha! ‘much better Aziz - thank you’
AP writer/propagandist Sameer N. Yacoub just had to end this article on a sympathetic note for mass murderer Aziz:
“... his family said they were worried about his health in Baghdad’s Kazimiyah prison, where Aziz is now being held. He has suffered several strokes while in American custody. He used a cane for support during recent court appearances.
He was well-known in world capitals as he frequently traveled abroad on diplomatic missions.”
Well known and ill, hey? Gee, that should excuse him of being a mass murderer, right? Well, cry me a river, Sameer N. Yacoub, just cry me a river.
Too bad. He would have made an excellent White House Press Secretary.

We tended to see Aziz a lot because he spoke fluent English and was essentially Saddam’s chief diplomat and international spokesman during the Gulf war and I think even before that during the Iran-Iraq War.
They do things fast there too..
He will be worm food in a less than a few months, right?
I’m sure the Bush Administration would have been willing to make a deal if Aziz would reveal the truth about Saddam’s WMDs.
But the Obama Admin won’t make that deal.
Yep. They took a little while with Chemical Ali, but Saddam swung just over a month after he was sentenced.
