Our new documentary film, "Rockin' the Wall," is now out! An 83-minute documentary, this film includes interviews with rock musicians from both sides of the Iron Curtain, including Euro star Leslie Mandoki, who was a student activist and drummer against the Hungarian communist system who escaped to become the music producer for Audi and Volkswagen.
Among the American musicians interviewed are Robby Krieger (Doors), Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot), Mark Stein and Vinny Martell (Vanilla Fudge), David Paich (Toto), "Mother's Finest," and many others. The music is terrific, the message one of liberty. You'll be shocked at how "pro-American" some of these rockers are, and at the situation they described when they played in the East Bloc countries.
Both the film and the 14-track soundtrack CD are available at the website, www.rockinthewall.com, and we are forging ahead with our next documentary, "Other Walls 2 Fall," about rock music's penetration of the Islamic world.

Mikhail Gorbachev was the last General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and the last head of state of the USSR, serving from 1985 until its collapse in 1991.

Mr. Gorbachev went on to say the Beatle’s influence on himself and others in Russia at the time can never be overestimated. The cultural, social and musical revolution they inspired manifested itself years down the track and when the old guard was fading, Gorbachev and others of his ilk were ready to transform their country and probably save the planet.

YES! We have a very similar quotation spoken to Leslie Mandoki in the movie, as testified to by Leslie. Gorby visited Mandoki in his home, and said, “We could not keep out rock and roll.”

I had a chance to meet with a group of Russian high school students in 1991 as part of my HS Russian class. I quickly discovered that they were all big Beatles fans, and wanted to sing “Yesterday” as part of their “going away” assembly. Fortunately I was able to borrow a guitar and accompany them.
Funny, most of the rockers now are racing TOWARDS communism. Ironical ain’t it?

But a lot of the Muslim rockers are Sufis and are opposed to radical Islamic interpretations of the Koran.
The film is superb. It has brought audiences to their feet, cheering and with tears in their eyes.
Put it this way: that is what they say about their religion. For example, see Salman Ahmad, head of the Paki band Junoon, who protested the Paki government for its ties to the Taliban and who criticized Pakis’ possession of nukes. I’m sure there are a few in any sect who differ from the main group, but this seems pretty well supported by the Sufi Moroccan rappers and musicians, too.

Oh, yeah. Heavy metal guys inside Tehran. I’m interviewing them regularly.
