“The Democrat Party has managed to legalize organized crime.”

Organized crime? Hmmmm...an interesting concept. Lemme talk to Dad about this one...

Using cellphones in poling locations is illegal in Nevada.

re: The machines we use (DuPage County, Illinois) create a paper trail that backs up the electronic tabulation with a printed record similar to a grocery store receipt.

The voting machines in Clark County, NV also create a paper trail similar to a grocery store receipt. The voter does not get a copy, but they do get to view their votes before pushing the final button to confirm and cast their ballot.

Of course, if election officials want to conduct honest elections they can and will do it. It’s not a technology issue; it’s a dishonesty issue.

If a machine is software driven, there is no proof in pressing any "final button to confirm and cast their ballot." Anything at all can still happen within the machine after that step.

Are these the Sequoia voting machines, made in Chavez' Venezuela?

“just confirms my fear that computerized voting is potentially MORE fraud and accident prone than paper voting, because there is no audit trail.”

My thoughts from another thread:

The software producers should and could prevent this machine fraud. Such safeguards should be an integral part of the software's design. Programmers and/or software architects please correct me if I'm wrong.

You are absolutely correct. However much government programming is either out-sourced or in-sourced to the cheapest guest workers they can find.

FYI studies have shown that both electronic voting machines and internet voting are open to being hacked. A study in Princeton NJ hacked the electronic machine using a cell phone.

I think we all need to go back to paper ballots.

This is one place where ‘technology’ isn’t helping American voters. Too much room for fraud.

“Clint Williams” said he was for a paper ballot with an automated tally... you can always go back to the paper ballots for a manual recount or a chad inspection. With full computerization, you could argue that an encryped signature accompanying the bits would guarantee the same effect, but I don’t believe it. It’s a lot easier to find bits in memory than the more typical shoebox of uncounted ballots in some official’s trunk.

“The voter does not get a copy, but they do get to view their votes before pushing the final button “

They get to view how they voted, but they have no idea how the votes are actually recorded.

In my precinct we use the optically scanned paper ballots. In 08 they had a single touch screen machine but only a couple of people used it and they didn’t bring it back.

Personally I like the idea of a code number on each ballot and a phone number we could call to make sure our vote was counted correctly. That presnts other problems though.
