ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- An Alaska judge on Wednesday granted a temporary restraining order stopping the state elections officials from handing out names of write-in candidates at polling places.
The ruling is a setback for the campaign of incumbent U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who was defeated in the August GOP primary by tea party favorite Joe Miller and is mounting a write-in campaign. Former Sitka Mayor Scott McAdams is the Democrat in the race.
Anchorage Superior Court Judge Frank A. Pfiffner said the division was in clear violation of an administrative regulation.
The regulation reads, "Information regarding a write-in candidate may not be discussed, exhibited, or provided at the polling place, or within 200 feet of any entrance to the polling place."

At first, I thought the solution was simple: Have the campaign workers at the polls hand out a card to take with the voter. (You can usually carry campaign literature with you as a voter. Just can’t hand it out within the prescribed distance.)
Then it hit me: She has no campaign workers, or very few. Now it gets tough for her. If you’re part of the Republican poll worker pool, you won’t be next time if you hand out Murkowski lit. This could be fun.
Either he will be elected or she will be, the Democrat has no chance.
We should help spread the word- Alaska, write in Mercowsky-!!!

Rules like this DO NOT APPLY TO VOTERS. They do apply to poll watchers, party officials, candidates, etc.

Why is there no penalty levied for them violating a clearly written law?
I had a solution for this all along. Joe Miller could have volunteers handing out papers with her name on it also...

This is great news, although “temporary” is a little troubling as lawyers are going to be converging all over Alaska on this election. Murkowski MUST be defeated
