The phrase “a chip on your shoulder” indicates anger because of past experience. It can be difficult to detect emotion in a forum like this. For instance “WTF” and “had better” do such and such might be humor or might be anger.

I'm still curious what you meant by them.

Yes, and I think I would be wasting my time trying to explain something that I don’t think really needs explaining to someone who just wants to be contrary.

Would anyone deny that the actions this past year by the illegals in this country hasn’t poisoned the atmosphere for all??

My frmr landlord here in Hollywood was the same. I could have sworn they were Irish...really, until the time I caught the wife speaking to the maintenance guys in espanol. Then another mex neighbor told me that in mexico there are 2 types, the mestizo and aztecas. The mestizos are the white looking guys and so forth.

Legal immigrants to this country have nothing to fear at all....nothing.

Illegal immigrants have everything to fear....including being discovered, detained, and deported! (whadaya know...the "3 Ds"!!)

I don't care where the illegals came from....why....or how....but get out they must...and NOW!

If the current regime allows them to stay, perhaps they'll become a new "class" of Americans.
After all, we now have "Asian-Americans", "African-Americans", "Spanish-Americans", "Mexican-Americans", "SouthAmerican-Americans", "Aboriginie-Americans", "Eskimo-Americans", "Native-Americans", French Frigate Shoals-Americans", "dem/lib/prog/pop-Americans", "Kenyan-Americans" (oh...wait....there's only one of them), "Irish-Americans", "German-Americans", "Muslim-Americans", and "Terrorist-Americans" to name a very few.
So why not "Illegal Immigrant-Americans"??!!

“Report: Hispanics fear backlash over immigration”

Well, duh.

Obey our immigration laws and there’ll be no backlash.

Your reply puts you squarely in sync with the muslim population - same argument in response to the same charges.

Legal US citizens and residents with origins south of the US border ("Hispanic" in the vernacular) have not to any great extent protested what is in fact the hugely expensive (to us) and dangerous illegal traffic of people (drugs, crime, disease) inundating this nation.

Sound familiar?

I know families from mexico and other Latin/South American countries who do, in fact, oppose illegal immigration - but most of them have illegal friends or relatives whom they will not "betray".
Further, they usually have to deal with illegals daily, just by shopping and going about their daily lives.
In the first instance they won't give up a friend and in the second they won't risk the blowback from the latin-American sub-community.

Just as with the elusive "moderate muslims", otherwise mainstream opinions remain closely held and are rarely allowed to be seen by the greater community.

So, by avoiding onus from their cousins they will eventually suffer equally from without...that's a no brainer.

(PS: Fox reports that police found a decapited body in a Phoenix suburb today, linking it with illegal drug trafficing from mexico.)

There are two ways you can take this headline:

  1. The way the MSM wants you to take it.

    or

  2. A well-founded fear from legal Hispanics that the blurring of the line between those who have earned their way to citizenship and those who have simply sneaked in will cheapen their entire brand.

Hispanics are increasingly concerned about a backlash against them...

Then maybe the legal ones should speak out, and join with their fellow Americans in fighting against the illegal invasion. Once we know that all Latinos in this country are here legally, there won't be any "backlash" to worry about.

If hispanic Americans want to be treated like Americans, they need to be loyal to America, not some other country, and not some ethnic group.

The same can be said for muslims who, in spite of all the hatred and violence perpetrated by their fellow muslims around the world, choose to remain silent.

Hispanics are increasingly concerned about a backlash against them, even as they are split over the effects of illegal immigration on the country. Their anxiety comes as illegal immigration and border security are playing major roles in election campaigns nationwide.

They should be concerned, after Obama telling them they should punish their enemies. Logic should have them think their enemies might punish them.

Hispanics make up about 15 percent of the U.S. population and also comprise the vast majority of the country's roughly 11 million illegal immigrants.

Why do Hispanics think they should be allowed to come here in larger numbers than anyone else?

There will be a backlash, of course, if US citizens of Mexican ancestry continually defend the invaders and refuse to show enough pride in their citizenship to prove it when asked.

I live in an area where there are a lot of fair-skinned Caucasian invaders. If the government decided to remove them from the US, I would prove my US citizenship with pride, just like I did to buy a house and to get a driver's license in a different state.

As would I.

I have never thought it an undue burden on me to show my identification when voting at the local National Guard Armory. But that's apparently too much bother for some as asking for ID before one votes was recently ruled to be too burdensome for some of out Spanish speaking friends.

I don't dislike Mexicans. My best friend and neighbor is Mexican and I am the godfather of his children. But I don't like that Mexicans who were LEGAL immigrants to this country for the most part remain silent on the issue of illegal immigration.

My friend, however, is very outspoken on the issue.
