No it isn’t new, the Cartel’s do not fight like soldiers. We are a civilized society, one of the few (though that is changing) They don’t just kill the person they think did them wrong, they kill their relatives and children as well. Drug related homicides here - from what I know of - is usually pretty direct and crude. The killing is the message, and is usually a marginally competent shooting at fairly close range, or very close range shots to the head.
These mutilations require more resolve, take more time, and increase the likelihood of leaving evidence at the scene.
Originally it was meant to indicate someone was a snitch, but I think in Mexico it has been more crude than that. I really fear what is going to happen as soon as Calderon is out of office, he has a six-year term and barely defeated the candidate Chavez wanted when he ran for office, I haven’t heard who will be the pro-American candidate next time (if there will even be one).

I probably would not be so concerned if we had a GOP POTUS and I didn’t live so close to Mexico and all their criminals are starting to push deeper into Arizona.
I know a great way to clean up Arizona’s illegal problem...Make all congress critters meet in Arizona instead of Washington...You could smell the fear they would put out for miles around...
