Posted on 10/30/2010 4:33:26 PM PDT by Tea Roll
No one seems to be sure exactly how many people packed the National Mall today for the Rally To Restore Sanity And/Or Fear, but there's one thing everyone can agree on: sanity and/or fear are extremely popular.
MTV's spokesperson told the Washington City Paper's Mike Madden that 250,000 people came out to see Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert take the stage Saturday, while Viacom (the parent company of MTV and Comedy Central, home to Stewart's and Colbert's show) told the New York Times' Brian Stelter that "well over 200,000" were in....
At the rally itself, Mythbusters hosts Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage said they counted about 150,000....
To be sure, even the smaller estimates show an extremely large crowd for a DC event, even one in this year of tea party rallies packing the Mall and the Capitol lawn. I have been to many a tea party rally, from the big ones to the small ones, and jammed in the crowd at Stewart's rally as I was today I can say there was an amazingly big turnout....

Well since we are so ‘evenly divided’, how do we tell who to shoot when the shots start flying?
I don't trust the Liberal or far Left media.
We need some overhead shots. I have yet to see any so maybe they are hiding something?
Well, that’s what happens when you bus people in.
Can we say “Astroturf”?
Aww come on...just because little old ‘tea roll’ just joined on 10/21 doesn’t mean he or she is a troll... (does it??)
Created an account today to post this?
p.s. Why shouldn’t Sorosites write comments in Free Republic? It would be useful for them to do so.
Looked like 5k people.
Big deal . . . they could have gotter 150,000 just from college kids within driving distance, nevermind the AFSCME union members.
Looking at the short posting history, looks like a bad act.
Keep your weapons handy, kitties.
I saw overhead shots on another thread. Not even close to the other rallies. Possibly one-third the crowd. No matter. Tuesday we kick all their @sses. Volunteer, call, donate and vote!
Where are the pictures of the Mall showing how many people were there?
we need to see the aerial photo
Yep overhead shots will tell the story. I have not seen any yet, have you?
Meaningless article. Absolutely no sign that that the author is interested in the facts.
For instance, there are aerial photos of both events. He doesn’t even bother to show photos of the relative crowds. Or mention the fact that there were several rock start types there, that free food was provided, or that numerous people were bussed in.
Don’t care. Non producers shipped in for a clown show.
NAMBLA for restoring sanity was a nice thing to think about before an election. LOL
I don’t care how many people they had. I’ve been to every Tea Party, Bachman event, Beck Rally etc. Some were formed with 5 days notice and we had 100,000 like at the Bachman event. I’d love to see these idiots do ANYTHING to draw a crowd again. Wouldn’t/Couldn’t happen. It’s all smoke and mirrors and won’t make a hill o beans difference after Tuesday!
Don’t really care!
Kind of sick of the pissing match about who had a bigger crowd.
Who had the better message is my interest. I don’t follow crowds.
Whoa... a City Paper estimate. Impressive.
To quote Carl Sagan, “There were billions and billions.”
So, what’s your screen name over at the DUmp?
Sane people or Insane people?
The insane had to be bribed with free “music” “comedy” food, transportation, etc. That’s no “rally” it’s all a put-on
And I bet they left the place a mess
The fewer that were there, the better for Mssrs. Stewart and Colbert. It was so stupid and boring from the get-go that anybody in attendance likely will never watch their shows again. Colbert’s dramatic re-enactment of the Chilean miners coming up the shaft was 3 rd grade level at the best. That was as far as I could have watched under any circumstances.
Great job with the pictures!
Looking at that photo, my guess is it’s barely enough to fill a football stadium.
250k? LOL Then the Tea Party rally drew 1m....
It’s amusing. I remember the days when Leftists could swing a rally the size of the Tea party rallies or larger. Now all their coordinated astroturfed efforts can only passably put together something over 100k. This impresses people? Hardly. The anti-war (really anti-America/Republican) rallies a few years ago were more impressive. The pro-amnesty/take back America for Mexico rallies were impressive. This is nothing.
One’s a big dill, the other’s a gherkin.
Perspective is important
Aren't you clever.
The count that matters will happen Tuesday night.
You can't fake commitment. You can't fake patriotism or belief in a cause. Everything about the Left is phony window dressing. They had to bus in, if not outright pay, most of the attendees today. I guarantee you less than half the people there will even bother going to the voting booth on Tuesday.
To be added or removed from the VK list, FReepmail Darkwing104.
That’s not much of a crowd considering they were bussing people in.
And since I have some free time this evening, I’m gonna jam some ammo in some magazines. Seems like the thing to do.
5, 100, 1500, 150K. You throw free birdseed in the air you attrack a lot of pigeons. lol
