The fatwah was specifically about insulting Mohammad ~ and that's the part where the wives come in. The story itself trashes the wives.

I wouldn't get too close kissing this guy's butt if I were you. Rushdie is as bad as the others of his type.

Yes. He's clearly not a modern Conservative. Just another funny little foreign Leftwingtard who wants us to fight his battles for him.

Actually, his attitudes are very consistent with 8th century Islam ~ that's where women are servants for men's pleasure and nothing more.

I never claimed he was a conservative. His attitudes toward women are about what you describe... though not to the extreme you mention.

I simply ask if you've read his work because the target of his research is Islam and its founder, not the wives. They are mentioned primarily because of his relationship to them. For example, you mentioned the child, A'isha. She isn't interesting because she married Mad Mo at six years old. She's an interesting subject because Mad Mo took her as his wife at six years old.

It's a distinction that makes a difference. It shows the type of man he was, not the type of girl she was.

Actually she ended up being somebody's honored ancestor, but the ages were "wrong" so they wrote her into the genealogy as one of Mohammad's wives (if, in fact, he even existed).

It's part and parcel of the "female as throwaway" that permeates Islam and the minds of Moslems.

That's my point.

The entire "insulting Islam" stuff is just BS they use to harrass Christians, Jews and women. Rushdie is part of the game.

Anyone else see the irony of having Ozzy Osbourne perform at a concert to restore sanity?

RE: Mad Mo took her as his wife at six years old.

I don’t want to imagine this, but I just have to ask -— when was the marriage consumated if at all? I hope Mo waited till she was (how to put it), more of age... because if not, the Muzzies will actually be following a Paedophile (there’s no other word to describe it).

RE: Nine.

Nine ??? I’m glad I am not eating lunch after reading this.

I guess I should study their beliefs more... but here’s what I know.... the main sacred book the Muzzies accept is THE KORAN. The others are the Hadiths ( the sayings and works of Muhammad ).

I believe ( and correct me if I am wrong ), ALL Muslims accept the Koran, but not all accept the Hadiths as entirely authentic.

Question : Is this marriage to the girl of 6 in the Koran or the Hadiths, and if in the Hadith, how many percent of Muslims believe these Hadiths?

I am asking this question because if the answer to the latter question is — A SIGNIFICANT MAJORITY, then I would have to conclude that :

A) Most Muslims don’t consider Paedophilia a moral depravity

or if they do,

B) Most Muslims are in cognitive dissonance, wanting to believe that Paedophilia is immoral, yet, accepting that their prophet is a Paedophile (yet not immoral?).

I've seen you on here for a long time... I'm surprised you haven't found the answers to your questions before. It's in the Quran and here is a decent summary of the social issues.

Islam and its followers are a curious sort. Even the most ardent fundamentalist jihadi is allowed his depravity since his sacrifice is the primary focus of his worship (the 9/11 hijackers spent the night before in a strip club). They party in Bahrain and sober up quickly when halfway back to Saudi Arabia. It is a dictotomous religion full of contradictions.

I have no use for Colbert or Stewart. They are smug, low-class no-nothings who snark on the good people of America. They got the audience they deserved!

Am I the only one deeply offended that Stewart called the PRESIDENT OF THE USA a “dude”?! Forget the man; remember the office. For shame!

RE: I’ve seen you on here for a long time... I’m surprised you haven’t found the answers to your questions before. It’s in the Quran

I don’t pretend to read every single thread about Islam out there... I spend most of my time on Political issues, so if there is a post mention of Muhammad having sex with a 9 year old, I must missed it. I just learned about it ( you learn something new everyday).

I don’t pretend to know everything, but I do know how to ask the right questions.

One of the questions that popped up after perusing the Wikipedia site you referred to is this -— THE ARTICLE DOES NOT MENTION THAT THE QURAN MADE THE HISTORICAL REFERENCE TO HIS MARRIAGE CONSUMATION WITH AISHA AT AGE 9.

If there were, I would have expected a reference to a Surah, a chapter in the Koran mentioning this.

Most of the references to Muhammad’s consumating his marriage with a 9 year old were from Traditional Sources or Historians of Islam ( See for instance the section of the article you referred to me entitled : Marriage to Muhammad ).

In which case, if one were to bring this issue up with a Muslim, he can always say -— “I am against Paedophilia, and I only believe the Koran. What historians allege or write could be wrong and in this case, they are.”

Not defending them, just saying that there will always be a way out of the charge : “Muhammad was a Paedophile”, for the modern Musim trying to defend him.

My apologies. I don’t have much time for research right now... calling to get out the vote. I saw a reference to the Quran and extrapolated that she must have received at least a mention. I inferred too much.

I know I could get banned for saying this, but in Islam they believe that Jesus will return to the earth, Do you believe he will return?

Child brides are not uncommon in the Islamic world, due to this 'history'. It is enshrined in sharia 'law' that a female may be married at age 6, although, as was the case with A'isha, sexual consummation may not occur until age 9. For what it's worth, A'isha was a widow by age 11. Thus she was wife, and widow, long before she actually became a woman (ie, attained puberty...)
