A stunner: State GOP wins both House and Senate
Minneapolis (Red) Star-Tribune ^ | 11-3-2010 | staff

For the first time in more than a generation the GOP swept to control of both houses of the Minnesota Legislature.

In a stunning victory, Republicans swept into the majority in the Minnesota Senate for the first time in more than a generation and by early Wednesday had followed that by also taking control of the House.

The dual victories left many of the state's top DFLers speechless, and erased months of optimistic projections that the party would buck a nationwide trend toward Republicans. Even Republicans, who gained confidence with each passing hour as key races broke their way, said the results exceeded even their giddiest predictions.

But it looks like the strange Mark Dayton squeeked a win in the governor’s race. There may be a recount but Democrat Secretary of State Mark Ritchie and Acorn will take care of that like they did for Al Franken.

While this is great news, it really is an indication of how bad things are. Most of us knew it, the media won’t admit it, but the voters confirmed it.

Not just Minnesota. This morning, Republicans-elect control 20 more State Houses than they did yesterday. The last time the Republicans controlled this many State Legislatures was back in the 1920s.

The biggest impact this will have is on Congressional Redistricting as a result of the 2010 Census. Maybe some of the Gerrymandering that has gone on for so long can be undone, and that is an outstanding way to get some of these deeply entrenched Dhimmies rooted out of the Congress. If they had to stand to election in a normalized District, they would not stand a chance.

Lots of work to do in the State Houses next year, and that is where a lot of action will be taking place as well...

The problem in MN is you have a bunch of SOCIALIST farmers in Western MN that depend on government subsidies to pay for their new 4 wheel drive crew cab trucks every year...

And now they have to govern well, or they’ll be back out again in less than a decade.

My liberal family members are likely still in shock this morning. They were quite flabbergasted when they came for a visit, six months after they pulled the lever for Obama, at just how unpopular he was here. Apparently, some lady in WalMart gave them an earful (LOL). Now their entire state has reinforced it.

Beyond the state-level races in Minnesota, you also had Democrat Jim Oberstar defeated after he had been in Congress for decades. That guy was a fixture in the House and had some key committee assignments (including the House transportation committee chairmanship formerly held by Don Young).

Woo Hoo!

Only sad spot is emmer is currently down about 10K votes and there are not many left to count. Right now Dayton is up .49% so I think that means automatic recount.

Well the socialists took care of that with their farm harassment policies! Corporate farming owns the Democrats and now the Democrats have mid size and small farmers - the majority.

Your post nails it. The significance of what happened in local races cannot be overstated...and what it means for re-districting is phenomenal.

I was down in the dumps last night as I watched the local DFL idiots get voted back into office. So much that I didn’t want to watch the local returns.

Then this morning on the drive to work, I hear on KTLK, that the GOP took both houses. First I thought I was hearing things, but they repeated it, and I was grinning from ear to ear.

Too bad Taxing Timmy Walz got back in. Looks like we need to work harder in 2012.
