Wisconsin only state where Democrats lost governor, Senate seat, Legislature (I predicted margin!)

On a night when America turned from blue to red, few states swung harder than Wisconsin, where Republicans experienced their greatest electoral gains in decades, picking up a governor, Democrat Russ Feingold's U.S. Senate seat, both state legislative chambers and two U.S. House seats.

A battleground state that Barack Obama dominated two years ago dealt him and his party a sharp political rebuke Tuesday, as Democrats lost ground with one key voting group after another - independents, blue-collar whites, suburbanites.

Nationally, the GOP recaptured the U.S. House and whittled away at the Democrats' big Senate majority, transforming both the balance of power in Washington and the electoral map heading into the 2012 election for president.

Here in Wisconsin, Republicans gained a governor and U.S. senator in the same election for the first time since 1938. This was the only state in the country where Democrats lost the governorship, a Senate seat and an entire legislature.

Well, I most certainly would prefer your Feingold scenario.

Go Russ Go!

I first met Freeper Jean S early this am - it sounds like she did a great deal for the Walker campaign - thanks to her and all who worked so hard in WI. I never thought that it would be this big of a win today for our state! The only thing that could have made it better would have been giving Ron Kind his walking papers but that will have to wait until 2012!

Hey Tex! I got up about 10 minutes ago and that’s only because my husband woke me up before he left to tell me that the plumber will be coming between 12 and 2.
Still waiting for my coffee to brew!

Last night was so exciting!

I predicted Herb Kohl will announce his retirement in 6 to 8 months... and that Rusty Feingold (or perhaps, Ambassador Feingold by then) will announce his intent to run for the seat Kohl is vacating.

.... and Paul Ryan will run against him?

You should meet the hardcore conservatives at State Party HQ - where I work. New and young, mean and ornery. Doers not debaters.

This explains Obama’s visit(s) to WI. IIRC, didn’t he visit more than once?

This was the only state in the country where Democrats lost the governorship, a Senate seat and an entire legislature.

And I thought Ohio had a good night.(Governor Kasich, Senator Portman (a seat Voinovich held is like a pickup) and a pickup of +5 in the House). Well done Wisconsin!

Congratulations to Wisconsin! I pray that the gains in all of the states will be good, effective ones, not just political window-dressing.

What a great day!

Ron Johnson gave such a great speech last night.

Newly rejected Russ Feingold acted like an angry child during his speech last night. What a pleasure it is to give him his pink slip!!!

For the first time in my life I’m proud to be from Wisconsin.

Just kidding. But way to go fellow Badgers!

Too bad I(we) have to put up with Kind for at least two more years.

I am lucky enough to vacation on Washington Island and was there during the campaign and as an outsider (california) I was impressed with ALL of the candidates Wisconsin had to offer. As conservatives purity of ideology is not everything, we need good right thinking people with integrity and someone we would be proud to further our cause. Wisconsin did that this year and will make a huge difference in furthering conservatism.

When Fox called it for Walker last night, I called and hollered an incoherent message for you. :)
