Pence resigns from GOP leadership
Politico ^ | 11-3-10 | Jake Sherman

Posted on 11/03/2010 8:44:29 AM PDT by STARWISE

While his party basked in the afterglow of a historic House victory, Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) announced he would resign as House Republican Conference Chairman, and Texas Rep. Jeb Hensarling threw his hat in the ring.

Hensarling, who has led the conservative Republican Study Committee, quickly won the endorsement of incoming Eric Cantor (R-Va.), the likely incoming majority leader. The Cantor backing gives Hensarling a huge boost for the leadership job, which is seen as a stepping stone to higher slots in the GOP hierarchy.

“Today, I was saddened to learn that my dear friend Mike Pence has chosen not to stand for House Republican Conference Chairman for the 112th Congress,” Hensarling said in a news release. “While I do not claim to be able to fill Mike Pence’s shoes, I have the commitment and passion to build upon his work. To that end, I announce my candidacy to be the next Chairman of the House Republican Conference.”

POLITICO reported last week that Pence was planning to step down and that he planned to tell his colleagues that he was looking at serving beyond the House.

“As we consider new opportunities to serve Indiana and our nation in the years ahead, I have come to realize that it may not be possible to complete an entire term as Conference Chairman,” Pence said in a letter to colleagues. “As such, I think it would be more appropriate for me to step aside now, especially since there are other talented men and women in our Conference who could do the job just as well or better.”

Hensarling is positioning himself as having seen “first-hand what happens when a party loses its way and ceases to live what it espouses.”

“I fought it then and am committed to ensuring it never happens again,” Hensarling said. The fifth-term Republican is running on “unity, empowerment and service.”

While Hensarling is already a favorite for conference chair, the short list of other potential candidates include Jason Chaffetz of Utah, Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington state, Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee and Michele Bachmann of Minnesota.

Looking at map...can’t stop smiling.

However- why is Maine blue? They have two (so-called) Republican senattors and have just elected a GOP governor, house and senate.

I thought his parents had to be citizens, not green card holders?

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but legal immigrant naturalized parents are not citizens. They have no citizenship to confer on their son.

I need a lawyer to help me out, here!

I don’t think Palin will run, either, but leaving the Democrats guessing will be a great strategy as all the focus will be on her. She’ll suck all the oxygen out of the room as she always does and leave Democrats apoplectic.

Palin is perfect where she is and I’m sure she’s loving every minute of it.

Then when another Republican waltzes in to take the nomination, it will be too late for Democrats to train their sights on that person.

Governor election results: At least 10 states flip Republican
By Ron Scherer | Published Wed, Nov 3 2010 10:29 am

NEW YORK — The political winds of change that hit Congress blew through governor’s mansions as well as unhappy voters replaced Democrats with Republicans in at least 10 states

The political winds of change that hit Congress blew through governor’s mansions as well as unhappy voters replaced Democrats with Republicans in at least 10 states.

The shift from a Democratic to Republican governor is taking place in Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. The only Democrat gains were in California, Hawaii, and Vermont.

However, as of early Wednesday morning, six governor’s races were still very tight - those in Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, and Oregon. Some of these races were separated by only a small number of votes, and it might be days, if not weeks, until the final governor election results in those places are known.

She would be a great replacement for Steele. She loves the campaign limelight.

He isn’t resigning his seat. It is possible he will run for Indiana governor.

Take a look at New York. It almost looks like there are two red middle fingers saluting the blue background.

I agree with your assessment. I don’t think she particularly wants to be president, but she definitely wants to have a say in what happens. We could have combinations of Rubio/Pence (or vice versa), Pence/West (don’t count West out because of the leftist press, he’s effective and extremely capable and he got elected), DeMint and Pence and somebody from the West Coast like Fiorina or Whitman (they both did well, but Californians are nuts, reelecting an aging-hippie failed governor). And there may be other folks out there that we don’t know.

On the other hand, if there were a really big groundswell for her, I believe she’d run and I think she’d probably win and would make a good president.

As Shakespeare said, some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them. And you never know when your time has come.

Doesn’t “naturalized” imply acquisition of citizenship as opposed to continuing on as a legal immigrant? Regarding “native-born or natural-born” citizenship, you are born in the country to citizens of the country or born elsewhere but to legal citizens of America. Further stipulated, if your babydaddy was never a citizen of the USA, you can’t be a natural-born citizen....

The map is tiny, but I didn’t see any blue around Los Angeles or Orange County (where ‘rat Loretta Sanchez prevailed).....I’m having some accuracy doubts.
