Testy Barney Frank incensed, even after big win
Boston Herald ^ | November 3, 2010 | Edward Mason and Jessica Heslam

Posted on 11/03/2010 11:37:48 AM PDT by IbJensen

NEWTON — A cranky U.S. Rep. Barney Frank blasted the Herald last night as “irrelevant,” even as surging Republicans grabbed control of the U.S. House and swept him from his lofty perch as chairman of the powerful financial services committee.

“With the re-election of the Massachusetts delegation and Gov. Deval Patrick, we can acknowledge tonight that Massachusetts has reaffirmed the complete political irrelevance of the Boston Herald," Frank told more than 100 supporters at the Crowne Plaza in Newton. “There is no limit to the bias and vitriol they unleashed.”

Frank won the hardest fight of his political career, fending off a fierce challenge from newcomer Sean Bielat. “This was a very important victory to win,” Frank said. “I’m very pleased to go back.”

Frank, 70, spoke at length of the strain of the “vitriolic” campaign on him and his partner, James Ready, and complained the “campaigns of most Republicans are beneath the dignity of democracy.”

Gracious in defeat, Bielat tried to comfort his crestfallen supporters, some who shed tears as word spread through the Newton Marriott ballroom he would lose his bid to unseat the liberal Democratic power broker.

“We did something that was next to impossible,” Bielat told his supporters. “We took on a 30-year incumbent in one of the most gerrymandered districts in the country, someone who outspent us by a million dollars, and we came close.”

“I see this as a success,” Bielat said. “For the first time in 30 years, people went to the polls tonight and they made a choice.”

Afterward, Bielat said he didn’t know whether he would run again and he’d have to talk it over with his wife. “It’s a sacrifice and we have to figure that out,” the 35-year-old Marine said.

Bielat supporter Bill Heck, 62, of Newton, said Frank’s “sell-by” date has expired. “I wish Barney Frank was a retired person effective January,” Heck said. “My wish did not come true.”

Wellesley grandmother Zeynep Mesta got emotional and said she hoped Bielat will run again. “I’ll work even harder next time,” Mesta said.

In 1985 Frank was still closeted and the “first time he felt good in a relationship” was after he hired Steve Gobie, a male prostitute, they became friends more than sexual partners.[14] Frank housed Gobie and hired him with personal funds as an aide, housekeeper and driver and paid for his attorney and court-ordered psychiatrist.[14] In 1987 Frank kicked Gobie out after he was advised by his landlord that Gobie kept escorting despite the support and was doing so in the residence.[15][14] Later that year Gobie’s friends convinced him he had a gay male version of Mayflower Madam, a TV movie they had been watching.[14] In 1989 Gobie tried to initiate a bidding war for the story between WUSA-TV (Channel 9), the Washington Times, and The Washington Post.[14] He then gave the story to The Washington Times for nothing, in hopes of getting a book contract.[15] Amid calls for an investigation Frank asked the House Ethics Committee to investigate his relationship in order to insure that the public record is clear.[16] The Committee found no evidence that Frank had known of or been involved in the alleged illegal activity and dismissed all of Gobie’s more scandalous claims; they recommended a reprimand for Frank using his congressional office to fix 33 of Gobie’s parking tickets.[17] The House voted 408–18 to Frank.[18][19] The attempts to censure and expel Frank were led by Republican Larry Craig, whom Frank criticized for hypocrisy after Craig’s own later arrest for soliciting gay sex in an airport bathroom. Frank won re-election that year with 66 percent of the vote, and has won by larger margins ever since.

“I see this as a success,” Bielat said.

It was. When you take the fight into the enemies home ground you force him to use resources that could be used to gain ground.

The fights in California and New York and Nevada that the Republicans lost were a main part of the reason they won the night!

MayflowerMadam: “I’ll never stop being amazed that these crooks in the dem party continue to be re-elected.”

I admit it boggles the mind, but that’s largely because we’re operating from a conservative perspective.

Case in point, I once had an acquaintance who was fairly conservative, but he consistently voted for Ted Kennedy. His explanation? Ted ran a strong office that worked hard for his constituents. When my acquaintance’s family had a crisis, Ted brought his political power to bear for them. This earned Teddy their lifetime support.

Add in voters who have voted Democrat all their lives, voters who don’t educate themselves on the issues, voters who get their news from the Democrat media, voters in organizations, like unions, that are controlled by Democrats, voters who are on the receiving end of wealth redistribution, etc., and you’ll understand why someone like Barney Frank is so hard to beat.

Shame on the braindead Democrats that continue to send such a disgusting homosexual to represent them in the federal government. He is vile, a horrible speaker with his lisping and spit flying in all directions, and ignorant of the history and purpose of our constitutional republic...a waste of protoplasm.

Maybe Mr. Frank’s sour attitude has something to do with the fact that Republicans will be interested in his dealings with Fanny Mae, Freddy Mac, Countrywide, Maxine Waters, and Heaven knows what else. Can you say, Ethics Committee?

Sean is a VERY attractive candidate but someone’s gonna have to put a stake in Barney’s heart (not advocating violence here, speaking figuratively), maybe he can run elsewhere or for another office.

Hate to see that cute guy quit politics.

If Black America would read American History in Black and White, it would cause them to finally switch from Dem to Rep.

Scott brown only had a chance because kennedy’s seat was up for grabs. I’m afraid the same will be true for bwarney’s seat. He has to retire before Bielat could have a chance.
