Christine O'Donnell and her victorious opponent in the Delaware senate race, Democrat Chris Coons, campaigned fiercely against each other during the midterms. But now they've buried the hatchet, quite literally.
The Tea Party darling and the senator-elect buried a hatchet actually, they put a small ax in a box of sand in the southern Delaware hamlet of Georgetown on Thursday, the AP reported (via The Huffington Post) in line with a time-honored state tradition.
As policies of Delaware state politics dictate, the senate race contenders took part in a ceremonial horse-drawn carriage and classic car parade, which preceded the hatchet burying.
The expression "to bury the hatchet" evolved from a Native American expression for peacemaking and, ceremonially at least, Coons and O'Donnell were cordial. "Coons gave a thumbs-up signal when asked how he and O'Donnell were getting along," the AP noted.
"Tradition!" -- Fiddler on the Roof
I saw this in the local press. I wanted to puke.
He is a filthy communist they get NO respect ever.
2 more years of the punk president’s escapades are going result in a lot of these axes being dug up and used.
it isn’t rove’s fault she got trounced. terrible candidate
What a useful way of viewing the matter.
So, whenever a less than conservative, establishment Republican wins a primary, every noted tea party figure with access to news media can come out and trash that candidate immediately following the election and for weeks thereafter. And with a clear conscience!
Thanks!
Christine has mikey castle’s scalp hanging in her den.
Turn him into a frog, O’Donnell.
"Castle would have beaten Coons", they wail. If Castle, who had no baggage, was a perfect candidate, and had excelent qualifications, as implied by Establishment Republicans could not beat her, who was "unqualified, a poor candidate, and had baggage" ,how could he have beaten Coons who beat her?
But, that is water under the bridge now. Coons is the Delaware Senator. The Democrats are happy. The Establishment Republicans are happy to the extent that a Tea Party supported candidate is not in the Senate. And the Freedom loving citizens of Delaware can take solice in fact that the Senate has one less RINO.
If she was so terrible a candidate, how did she win the nomination against the establishment candidate?
Winners write the history I guess. Who would have thought the draft dodging Clinton could beat an actual war service vet, twice! Who would have thought that Odumbo could beat the establishment Clintoon? It was after they won the election, everyone found the flaws in the candidate they ran running against (bush was out of touch, Dole was ascerbic and Hitlery was herself).
In Dem heaven like Delaware, O Donnell was a long shot anyway. Same for Angle in Nv and forget Fiorina losing in crazy Cal, hard to win in those spots given the uphill battle.
I will take the 6 we got, perhaps 7 who knows, and move on. When the dems are running 21 verses our 12 next time around, I like our odds.
So, who do you suppose might be the GOP candidate in De in 2012 for the short term seat won by Coons? Of course it will not be O Donnel as she has been vilified. Well, I guess I don’t see one rising up there anytime soon except perhaps for some country club RINO. The aged Castle would fit the bill but then again, why not just elect the dem anyway and be done with it.
Who would be a great candidate...castle? She was the better of the two. If nitwit pubbies had supported her, might have been different. Troll.
Is that you Karl, or your MSM Parrot?
One of the few little reported exit polls from nov 5 is that Castle would have LOST too. De, like Ca, is too far over the dam to bring it back I guess.
How ‘bout a 3 way...marxist coons...rino castle...Patriot Christine!
ODonnell was on BOR last night. He, unbelievably, tried to tie her loss to fact she did not appear on his show! Sure, she would have found a somewhat friendly audience but I am sure after listening to Rove pontificating on BOR’s show about how bad a candidate she was, why would she put herself in a position of being a foil between Rove’s commentary and BOR’s idea of neutral interviews. First question: When did you stop being a witch? Last night he fed her a few lines trying to lead her to agree with him that she should have appeared there BUT this is after the fact wherein no matter what she says, it will have zero impact on tuesday’s results.
The MSM is full of these “kiss and make up at a beer summit” stories. It’s all BS, and the Left only does this when they LOSE and election. That’s the only time you hear them say “Lets’ all come together...”
I know this. That’s why I finished my pointwith troll. I’m just tired of whiners. A long time ago when barry goldwater ran I heard the same crap, from that election came one of the greatest presidents, Ronald Reagan.
Not meant to be a pesonal comment, just a general info post. Yes I got your point when you added troll to your message and I agree with that 100%.
The whole message of the aftermath of this election by the Dems will be the conservatives did not take the senate back. Well golly gee, we had to run the board virtually to do that. They are moving the spotlight from the drubbing they took in the house and at the state levels. Lastly, Odumbo believes his message is not getting out. All the better he believes that because that signals to me full speed ahead by him, right off the cliff in 2012 and it could not happen to a better guy and bunch of lefties than the bunch who are true believers. We do as well in 2012 as we did in 2010, taking 60% of their seats, and the dems lose at least 12. Take out Snowe and it would be like winning the lotto!

2010 Christine O'Donnell and Chris Coons bury the hatchet at the Return Day ceremony.
Just a FRiendly warning. Someone got banned yesterday for speaking evil of Christine O'Donnell.
They have to be conservative, tea party type republicans. No compromising and remember there are more rat seats than this year to be defeated in 2012. Stay the course a correction has to continue.
Why can’t she run for a house seat? I think she would have a good chance at winning, depending on the district.
Why cant she run for a house seat? I think she would have a good chance at winning, depending on the district.
What state you want her to run in? Delaware has only one Congressman which is a statewide district.
The TEA Party is building it's infrastructure and the RNC is going to be relegated to a small worthless third party ............ wait and see. :O)
>>> One of the few little reported exit polls from nov 5 is that Castle would have LOST too.
That’s grasping at straws you know. Exit polls can only reasonably measure an election that ACTUALLY was held that day. Not a theoretical one that wasn’t held at all. The buildup to election day would have been under a totally different dynamic. The exit polls of the one race could not speak for the other.
Castle was an established credible Delaware political leader. The dems against Castle would not have been so energized as they were against the actual nominee.
In fact the only figures we have on the race that didn’t occur was the polling showing Castle winning handily. These are the same polls that so accurately predicted O’Donnell’s defeat.
If this was little reported, it’s because it’s of no particular relevancy or validity.
I am disappointed in her.
I thought he already was a frog.
Now the Son of VP (Veritable Pinhead) will have to knock out a fellow D in a primary (or trust Coons can be "persuaded" to step aside) before taking his rightful place in the slow learner section of the US Senate. Probably a foregone conclusion that Junior would defeat O'Donnell in two years anyway, but in the meantime we can at least take some pleasure in seeing this plan blown up by a primary endorsement from none other than Grandma (no disrespect intended, I think Sarah would like the name) Grizzly.
“In fact the only figures we have on the race that didnt occur was the polling showing Castle winning handily. These are the same polls that so accurately predicted ODonnells defeat.”
So let me get this straight...polls said Castle would win...Castle gets beat in his party primary; so those who would have voted for him are so turned off by her win they vote for the dem? Or did they stay home? Or perhaps, the inds were so turned off by O Donnell they voted the the marxist?
Regardless, none of this minimizes the simple fact that Castle was a sore loser and did not support the winner and that his buddy Rove did all he could to undermine any possibility she had to win. As she said last night, she could not overcome the personal attacks which were taken because they could not beat her on the issues.
All this is water over the dam, who will beat Coons in 2012? That is all I care about at this juncture. We can pretty much bet that the country club RINOs will not run a conservative, so which squish are they going to put up?
OTOH, the polls may have been accurate both times and O'Donnell only 'won' the primary so that Coons could be elected in the general election.
Vote fraud is likely rampant. Sometimes you just have to think outside the box a little bit.
She got beat 56-40. No one can say she was a great candidate. She got beat by 16 POINTS in a year where the GOP had a serious advantage.
Then stay in the box and believe that everything is as you are told...
I wonder if the race would have been any closer had the GOP actually supported O’Donnell.
Of course it would have been closer. I saw an exit poll on FOX the night of the election that showed O’Donnell ran fairly well among independents but while Coons got well over 90% of the Democrat vote, she only got in the low 80%s among Republican voters.
Also on O’Reilly last night O’Donnell said that the Delaware GOP machine did not help her and so she had to build her own GOTV apparatus from scratch.
BTW, exit polls also showed Castle would have lost to Coons as well. We’ll never know for sure who would have won, but it’s certain that O’Donnell would have done much better had the Delaware GOP supported her and had RINO eletes like Rove not trashed her after she won the primary.
52-44?
I know. I know. But there are moderators here who think that a room-temperature IQ bimbo tea party candidate is better than a RINO. Maybe a room-temperature IQ bimbo tea party candidate IS better than a RINO. But a room-temperature IQ bimbo tea party candidate CANNOT get elected. Not in this America.
I was banned for speaking the truth against the Bush/RINO/"Republican" party in W's second term. Look where W's 2nd term led us. It gave us a Democrat majority and President Obama.
It’s a symbolic tradition. They ran. She lost. It signifies the end of the campaign. What would you prefer she do? Stomp her feet, cross her arms and stick out her lower lip?
She needs to watch her back. A hug might have a knife.
Every R that lost the last election, in that climate, was by defintion a ‘terrible candidate’.
No sarcasm involved here. They need to go away, now.
Maybe, it’s time to do that to save our Republic.
