Rachel Maddow on suspended Keith Olbermann: MSNBC should reinstate him
New York Daily News ^ | 6 November 2010 | Christina Boyle

Rachel Maddow came to the defense of her suspended MSNBC colleague Keith Olbermann, saying network chiefs have made their point and the "Countdown" host should be reinstated.

Maddow also sought to dispel claims that MSNBC is a left-wing version of Fox News, saying the Murdoch-owned broadcaster has a history of "not just giving money to candidates, but actively endorsing campaigns and raising millions of dollars for politicians and political parties."

"Their network is run as a political operation. Ours isn't," Maddow said during the final segment of her show Friday. "Yeah, Keith's a liberal, and so am I. But we're not a political operation - Fox is. We're a news operation."

Maddow added that the rules surrounding political contributions "are part of how you know that."

“... [Fox] has a history of not just giving money to candidates, but actively endorsing campaigns and raising millions of dollars for politicians and political parties.”

So, is that documented or more leftwing hype and myth?

IIRC, MSNBC’s parent company, NBC, is owned in turn by GE. How strongly did they campaign for and raised millions of dollars for Team Obama and other Dems? More importantly, how well have they benefited from the Obama Administration ?

I know there are a number of threads on this and I didn’t get to read all the posts.

But my theory here is that MSDNC is protecting KO from himself. Obviously he was delusional to begin with, on that there is no question. Right now he is probably in bed in a fetal position, sucking his thumb, with a well-worn, pages-stuck-together copies of The Audacity of Hope and An Inconvenient Truth clutched to his breast, with John Lennon’s “Imagine” playing in the background on a continuous loop.

Surely MS D-and-C did this to get him off the air so he could not be fodder for the Right during this time. And the campaign contributions, slimy and loathsome though they were, will probably serve to enhance his street cred among his “audience” (both of them).

Rachel needs to go by a BP station and pump some air back into her head! I think she’s sprung a slow leak or something. What a half-witted dweeb.

FNC actually reports right down the middle, and many points of view from all corners of the political spectrum are expressed in its opinion segments.

That right wing extremist Jerry Rivers is proof about how right of center FOX news is. /s

Corporate policy is corporate policy. If your contract prohibits contributions to any political party and you violate that contract then you deserve to be suspended or fired.

I suspect that Fox has no such language in their contracts......

"Their network is run as a political operation. Ours isn't," Maddow said during the final segment of her show Friday. "Yeah, Keith's a liberal, and so am I. But we're not a political operation - Fox is. We're a news operation."

She is one of those leftists who think that just by strongly asserting something, they can make it so.

MSNBC is, if anything, more overtly liberal than FOX is pro-conservative because it takes that lib tactic of treating liberal positions as being not liberal at all, just common sense, what EVERYONE knows is the reasonable, rational position. They think their biased views are facts, and their conviction is all the proof one needs. So just shut up and believe them okay?

Here's the question I'd ask Maddow: If MSNBC WERE a liberal advocacy channel, how would it be any different from what it is now? All liberal hosts--check. A pro-liberal agenda--check. Advocacy for liberal causes on "news" shows--check.

So what's the difference?

Hey,Rachel, how about this--why don't you and Keith really show the courage of your convictions and leave behind all those MSNBC millions and go for a start-up liberal broadcasting radio station? Call it Air America.

Maybe Olbermann can work as a full time anger management consultant for Plugs Biteme, rather than just being on retainer.

I have to admit, I never can stand to watch her. I occasionally flip past her and that pack of @$%s. I stop in amazement, and then I have to move on as I feel my bp rising into the normal range. It is not anything like news. All I ever see is a constant hatefest. They are angry and bitter and they the truth has nothing to do with it. I’m pretty sure truth is somewhere in the definition of news.

It’s a stupid rule that MSNBC employees cannot donate to candidates.

I believe they can just as long as they divulge it. Olberdork didn't.

One must divulge to their employer which candidates they give money?

I just do not believe that it is an employer’s concern who you give money and such a policy will limit employee donations to candidates who may not be favored by the powers that be at a particular company.

I don’t think any of us would like to have our employers have to approve of where we donate money.
