Skip to comments.California: The Lindsay Lohan of States
Posted on 11/08/2010 12:05:07 PM PST by Mikey_1962
Listen up, California. The other 48 statesyour cousin New York excludedare sick of your bratty arrogance. You're the Lindsay Lohan of states: a prima donna who once showed some talent but is now too wasted to do anything with it.
After enjoying ephemeral highs and spending binges, you suffer crashes that culminate in brief, unsuccessful stints in rehab. This cycle repeats itself every five to 10 years, as the rest of the country looks on with a mixture of horror and amusement. We'd feel sorry for you if you didn't constantly flip us the bird.
Instead, we're making bets on how long it will be before your next meltdown. Oh, waityou're already melting down.
You've racked up nearly $70 billion in general obligation debt, and that doesn't include your $500 billion unfunded pension liability. Your own analysts predict you'll face a hole of at least $80 billion over the next four years.
Your government's run by a brothel of environmentalists, lawyers, public-sector unions and legislative bums. When they're not taxing or spending, they're creating regulations and commissions like the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology and the California Blueberry Commission. Many businesses would leave if it weren't for your sunny climate.
Which may explain why you're so obsessed with climate change. If your climate changes, no one, including your Hollywood friends, would tolerate you anymore. So you've created a law to tax carbon emissionsno matter that it will kill jobs.
It's not as if you don't recognize that you've got problems. Roughly three-quarters of you say you're headed in the wrong direction.
We've tried to help you, California. Some spent millions on campaigns to entice you to change your reckless behavior.
So here's our final warning: When you inevitably crash and burn, don't count on us to bail you out.

This is a great article
I hate to live in the state of Lindsey Lohan of all states LOL California LOL!
“your $500 billion unfunded pension liability”
Isn’t that illegal? Anyone going after our government?
With the 2/3 rule against tax increases thrown out, the DemocRATS in charge of all branches of government, and a new method of redistricting about to he installed, the Republican tsunami seen elsewhere may be two years delayed in California.
My ex-California co-worker describes California as a woman with big beautiful breasts, but absolutely no brain.
I suspect that a large bailout is central to Gov Moonbeam's plans.
We are gaining 4 more seats in the US House and just went to a deeper shade of red. It appears we are getting the right-thinking Californians leaving the dead-beats and scum there in the Golden State. Though not scientific, this is the impression that I am getting.
It’s time for the rest of America to stop being ENABLERS!
Congratulations to your state!
Lindsay Lohan is in a LOT better shape than CA. Maybe by some miracle - she may change. The state of CA reelecting Moonbeam is pretty much hopeless.
How pathetic that someone who run for an office 20+ years later?
How pathetic is it that populace would elect him a second time?
There will be no Republican tsunami in California. Two out of three Mexican voters vote democrat. If Los Angeles County seceded and joined Mexico we could save the rest of California.
So that means it:
Doesn’t look half as good as it used to
Smells of alcohol
Often makes the news for stupidity
Is going broke and expects Daddy to bail it out
Is all torn up inside
Is largely artificial and not half as appealing as it thinks it is
And guess who they will have their pudgy little hands out to, when they go under . . .
Sadly - I think you will also be getting deadbeats.
Lohan is the 57th state the GOP will put in treatment.
The uber liberal fascist powers that be in CA claim that since they pay so much in federal taxes, they are entitled to get more back than any other state. Cut spending??? Not a chance...
On avg the last 10 years - Calif has been #8 highest state paying fed taxes and on avg #35 in getting them back.
They have a website devoted just to that.
And Mexico would drill for oil off shore and then sell it back to the US...
All the more reason why these CA fascists should push for a huge reduction in federal income taxes...
We already have deadbeats in Texas. It’s called Austin. Austin is the one city in the country that takes it’s cues from all of the goofy, silly and stupid ideas from California. Just about every major street corner in Austin Texas has at least two bums working the corners for money.
Steve Greenhut of the old OCR fame moved to Sacramento and wrote a book and speaks on this.
Not true. What was thrown out was the 3/3 requirement for passing a budget, not tax increases.
Not true. What was thrown out was the 2/3 requirement for passing a budget, not tax increases.
Sorry for the typo.
California is like the sex organs on an eighty year old woman, everyone knows it is down there but no one gives a damn
OK, my mistake. But clearly, everything is in the DemocRATS’ lap now.
California is “Toast!”
Ironic that came from Mickey Rourke’s lips , too.
Also amazing is that Rumblefish came out in 1983, 27 years ago, when the governor's office had just switched to George Deukmejian from... you guessed it... Jerry Brown.
Wow, another smarmy thread about California. How original. I wonder how many Freepers were going to get claiming they ran from California with their tale tucked between their legs this time?
Well if California is the LILO of states, then Oregon is the Charlie Sheen of states.
Big difference: Lindsay Lohan still has money.
What a great analogy.
Generally speaking, leftwing states vote for high taxes on themselves and send them money to rightwing states that opposed the plan (but gladly cash the check).
(Al Franken is my senator)
California has to borrow $40 million a day just to pay unemployment benefits.
But for who long?
She's about three or four years from having to go on a reality show.
It's a good analogy, but you could take it further.
Who's the Dina and Michael Lohan or the Samantha Ronson of the Lindsay Lohan state?
The Lindsay Lohan of States? Low blow but true.
It was was the 2/3 budget passing rule that was thrown out. A supermajority is still required to raise taxes. In addition voters added a 2/3rd majority to raise "fees", which the legislature had used in the past to short-circuit the supermajority required to raise taxes.
The latest pro-California propaganda being run on TV has a message that tried to say “We’re not a bunch of fruits, nuts and flakes”.
And features Betty White at the end, inviting people to come and see for themselves.
Another example of the left dragging out old actors to promote failed socialist states and policies.
Just what is inaccurate about the article? Hey, I hate what’s happened in CA, used to visit my relatives there as a girl, it’s a stunningly beautiful state.
Still, stupid is as stupid does.
As a native born San Franciscan who has lived in the People’s Democratic Republic of California for my entire 52 year lifetime, I can heartily say, “8 more years before I tuck tail and run, flee this commie hell hole for some place in the US of A!” I am counting the days.
I’m not debating the accuracy. The problem is conservatives allowing the commies to push them out of the state. This is where the real fight is.
Since 99% of Free Republic is the posting of an already printed article originality is not the purpose; the purpose is to bring attention to an enlightened opinion.
If the people of the State of California chose to spend themselves into oblivion to benefit those who suckle at the Government teat, so be it.
Just don't ask the taxpayers of the rest of the country to subsidize their financial folly.
BTW I believe the author was not being smarmy but the exact opposite: sincerely earnest about California's descent in to the abyss.
