He was in his teens. I’m not sure if I’d show it or not. It was his only chance to see that brother/sister in this life, so I think I’d make the offer. People used to photograph dead children and send the photos to relatives who hadn’t had a chance to see the child in life (18th-century era).

If you read the article, you’ll discover that she
placed the lost babe in a receptacle to take to the
hospital, standard procedure in miscarriages, where
they need to analyze to diagnose the reasons,
genetic abnormalities, etc.

There’s NO mention at all about the final resting
place for this lost child.

God bless her, and for the gift of forever opening
her son’s eyes to the sacred preciousness of life.

But why keep the baby in a jar, why not give it a proper burial?

Go back and re-read it again - sheez. She wasn't 'keeping it' in a jar. She was transporting it to the hospital....personally I would have used a jar instead of my purse but that's just me.

If you re-read the story Bush was driving his 'distraught mother' to the hospital. She had just miscarried apparently at home and they were heading to the hospital. She was taking it to the doctors which is what you are supposed to do when you miscarry.

It is a “lump of flesh” after all. It is not a human being. Just like your tonsils or your appendix. /sarc

But isn't that the issue? Cold and unfeeling disrespect for life. A human life.

Apparently there are a lot of freepers who need to go back to school for a brush up on reading comprehension. Sad.

Babs wasn't keeping the fetus in a jar for posterity - good God. She was transporting it to the hospital for diagnostic reasons having JUST miscarried per Bush's statement, 'driving his distraught mother to the hospital'.

Apparently none of these yahoos have ever suffered a miscarriage and been instructed by the Doctor to BRING the fetus..........

But it seems very strange to me that a mother would show it to her small child. That is strange, indeed.

Since when is a teenager old enough to 'drive his distraught mother to the hospital' considered a SMALL child???? A small child driving a car would indeed be strange - a teenager old enough to drive not so much.

What a tragedy... a baby that was wanted.

Heck, a person would have to be pretty cold hearted to not be disturbed by an abortion. Don’t know how doctors can do it or how they rationalize it.

Similar to an executioner. Or having to kill on the battlefield. Only, an unborn child is innocent.

I plead guilty to not clicking through to every original source before I comment.

But I think I am qualified to comment on the subject. We had one baby at 2 pounds 14 ounces and miscarried another.

If I had excerpted this article, I would have made sure that the juicy tidbit about taking the fetus to the doctor would have made it onto this forum.

My comment was, as follows: "Bizarre."

I can understand saving the fetus to show to the doctor. I cannot, however, comprehend being a parent and showing my child the fetus of their baby brother or sister!

I do, in fact, find that bizarre and so, my comment stands.

I must add that my reading comprehension probably rivals that of many "yahoos" on this site.

In closing: Pound sand.

.....a person would have to be pretty cold hearted to not be disturbed....

Boy you nailed that one. Absolutely cold hearted, no doubt about it.

Now imagine Obamacare and we're all paying for abortions and the doctors are now answering to some govt beaurocrat. I don't think we've even begun to see cold hearted yet! (Paging Dr. Mengele.......)

Do the vast majority of Freepers not actually read an article to dig deeper into the facts?

Rhetorical question.

It's becoming more and more apparent that a sizable percentage of freepers were voters in Palm Beach County in November 2000.

Fair enough you’re entitled to your opinion that showing a miscarried fetus to a teenage boy is bizarre. And maybe it is, but I’m glad she did it.

I would even go so far as to suggest that if every teenage child (male or female) could see this we might have hundreds if not thousands fewer abortions in this country!!!

So kudos to Barbara Bush. So go pound sand yourself, and have fun.

And there are other freepers that need to brush up on their manners and take some time to learn what the view replies link is for. Perhaps they’d realize that someone else already beat them at providing an explanation without resorting to name calling and arrogant self righteousness.
