Militia members are normal everyday people. We are just like you, and some of us may be your neighbors, your friends, and your family. Everyone has heard of violent hate-based groups calling themselves militias. Everyone has also heard of parachute malfunctions, but we still understand that parachutes are a good thing, right? Militias are the parachutes our founding fathers built into the constitution to save us in the event of disaster, government tyranny, or foreign invasion....

Getting in touch with militia could go like this:
Get the first name and phone number for the Nation Gaurd recrueter in say Ann Arbor.
Pass this info in hushed tones during a huddled converstion.
Laugh at rubes during dinner conversation.
My error its 600-9! My minds eye pictured a 5. Its the weight control requirements.
I’d thought AR 600-5 was the Army Regulation [AR] regarding the uniform.
Apparently it’s regarding establishing a locator service:

“LOCATOR SERVICE FOR OFFICERS AND KEY CIVILIANS IN WASHINGTON AND VICINITY”
>How does one find a militia in their area?
1) Obtain a Copy of your State Constitution.
2) Search for “Militia.”
3) Read the definition.
It is *highly* likely that you will see something similar to:
“The militia of this state shall consist of all able bodied males, aged 18 to 45.”*
*A common qualification is that they be “armable,” that is not gun-restricted/’prohibited persons.’
There's a pretty good starting place *here*
NoGrayZone, your user profile says you are in New York. The militias in your state are:
The National Guard units are federally recognized, and all members are also reserve members of the US Armed Forces. The Naval Militia is at least 95% federal reservists. The New York Guard is a state asset; it is part of the organized militia only under New York law, and the federal government can't touch its members without a draft. The unorganized militia is a manpower pool; the governor of New York may activate volunteers, or even draft them in an emergency.
I went and it’s not a good place for NY. =(
Guess it’s just me and my sister.
But I’m not military. Do they accept non-military?
>>That’s the usual definition for an unorganized militia.
So, how is the distinction within the context of this thread relevant?
>>The organized militia is the National Guard and the various permutations of state defense forces and naval militia.
I would caveat that by saying ONLY [of those organizations you list] such organizations that are so named by that particular State’s Constitution. That is that, say, the Texas National Guard is NOT the “organized militia” [in any part] UNLESS the Texas Constitution declares it to be.
Arguing for state recognition as the only government autrhorized militia is a tautology that does not acknowledge non governmental militia by definition. NGO militia is a Constitutional right from which government authority is proscribed.
As with the other 9 amendments these are rights not granted by the government but from which the government is expressly prohibited. They are restrictions of authority, a line drawn in the sand across which the federal government is expressly forbidden.
Militia is private, expressly non governmental and is foundational to our Constitution.
>Arguing for state recognition as the only government autrhorized militia is a tautology that does not acknowledge non governmental militia by definition. NGO militia is a Constitutional right from which government authority is proscribed.
I’m not sure I buy that a non-government-recognized militia is a militia; in the general sense; though for the government to define the militia as anything other than “the body of the armed citizenry” is a redefinition* of the order of the Supreme Court saying that the prohibition of Ex Post Facto laws as being applicable to Criminal law.
*redefinition [of language] is, by its nature, illegality.
**I am not saying that because a right is not listed in the Bill of Rights does not make it a right. I, however, do think that we CAN [and should] use existing [recognized] definitions against our current government. {i.e. beat it back with its own words.}
>As with the other 9 amendments these are rights not granted by the government but from which the government is expressly prohibited.
I especially like how [the duties of] Juries get to be defined by the government.
>They are restrictions of authority, a line drawn in the sand across which the federal government is expressly forbidden.
>Militia is private, expressly non governmental and is foundational to our Constitution.
See the above.
Also the question exists whether a member of the [active] Army or Law Enforcement is a member of the militia; given your definition that they recieve their pay from the Government certainly *could* raise a “conflict of interest” concern. {Which I think is rather likely, in the future.}
Are you trying to say something? I can not make any sense of your post.
I suppose you could sum it up by saying the Tenth Amendment allows the definition of things like ‘militia’ and ‘jury’ to either the people OR the [individual] States.
“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”
Therefore, I see no problem in allowing “the government” [that is State government] define who constitutes the militia.
I find the federal & state stance on *juries* [the definition of the scope of their powers] to be far more frightening than the current understanding of ‘militias’ as the current definition strips the power of the jury [particularly the Grand Jury] of investigative powers PRECISELY because that to allow the jury to apply their own reasoning/motivation/investigation immediately endangers the status quo of the Judge/prosecution governmental team.
Given any amount of autonomy a jury could not only find someone, who was clearly ‘guilty’ of violating [say] gun-laws to be innocent AND, further, convict the prosecution of something like conspiracy against rights. There was a recent posting about a guy in NJ who was convicted because the judge would not allow the jury to know the law [specifically, the exceptions for transportation] concerning guns.

Former Marines Arrested for Selling Weapons to Gang Members
Two former Marines, and three other local men, have been arrested following a lengthy investigation for allegedly selling assault rifles to known Los Angeles gang members, according to LA Now.
Authorities have released the names of the suspects; former Marines Jose Smith Pacheco, 31, of Montebello, and Miguel A. Ortiz, 49, of Northridge, along with “Edwin Cano, 33, of Northridge, and Christopher John Thomas, 32, of Van Nuys, were arrested Monday. The group’s alleged ringleader and another former Marine, Adam Gitschlag, 28, was taken in on November 2, reports the Star-News.
All five men “are charged with five counts each of having unlawful assault weapons, including four AK-47 assault rifles and an AR-15 assault weapon.”
“One of the buyers allegedly was connected to the Florencia 13 gang,” notes USA Today, referring to a June 23 deal that happened in the parking lot of Pasadena post office parking lot, which involved an informant who helped the ATF with the case.
Gitschlag told The Associated Press the charges are “definitely untrue,” and that he is “a private weapons collector who loves his country.”

Guess its just me and my sister.
Only if you limit your interest to the are in which you find yourself at present.
If you'd care to consider relocation- which need not be permanent, but which might give you both a safer location once the troubles begin to fall like rain, and some pretty fair folks with which to throw in with and have as neighbors, you're welcome to hook up with those of us in Wyoming.

"I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people, except for a few public officials."
-- George Mason (3 Elliot, Debates at 425-426)
"The militia, when properly formed, are in fact the people themselves, ... all men capable of bearing arms;..."
-- Richard Henry Lee writing in "Letters from the Federal Farmer to the Republic", 1788, page 169.
"Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Is it feared, then, that we shall turn our arms each man against his own bosom? Congress shall have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birth-right of an American ... The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the People."
-- Tench Coxe - 1788.
Which is what I said.
What you seem to mean is that you're non-prior service. Some state military organizations happily accept those without prior service experience, at least in some roles, others do not. ask them!
There's at least one other military-affiliated organization active in NY state that may be of interest to you; they were in fact, the first military unit to fly over NYC following the 09/11 attacks and photograph the destruction at the World Trade Center towers.
And yes, they most certainly do accept those without prior military service. Indeed, it's not at all a bad place for you to *dip your toes in the water.* And they've even sunk a submarine or two, in wartime.
