As of 3:06 p.m. Alaska time:
Miller has netted 914 votes over "Write-ins" after 8,000+ of the roughyl 30,000 absentee/military votes have been counted.
The count now has Joe Miller trailing "Write-ins" in the overall count by 12,525 votes.
Remaining ballots are from both places Miller is expected to do well AND places Murkowski is expected to do well.
The write ins have not yet been challenged.
If the dent in the lead is large enough then maybe there will be enough write-ins thrown out to make a difference.
The result of this race is NOT good for Palin. It’s her home state, and she backed Miller to the max.
If she can’t persuade her home state.....
It does mean that over 10% of the write-ins are going to him. I wonder how many are going to neither of them.
-—”The result of this race is NOT good for Palin. Its her home state, and she backed Miller to the max.”-—
That is the single stupidest thing I have heard today.
I’ve been wondering whether thousands, who heard and answered the plea of the radio guy up there, didn’t go out and write in Smith, or Jones.....or whomever.
Wrong - a ton of the write in votes came from the welfare native American villages where the “voters” did what the mayor said. Seems the welfare crowd was looking after their rice bowl.
AK gop establishment didn’t like Palin when she was AK GOV. She got most of her agenda thru with the help of the AK DEM and some AK GOP. When she was picked for 2008 GOP VP, AK DEM turned on her, AK media (who used to love Palin) turned on her as well. After 2008 election, Palin have no allies left in AK
Really? Is Miller losing GOOD for Palin? Miller wouldn't have even been on the radar screen if it wasn't for Palin. He was HER candidate. The election was a fight by proxy between her and the 'establishment' GOP/Dems, and she didn't win it.
Consider the source. The troll was not in Alaska and did not follow the filthy race and the dirty deeds thrown at Je Miller.
He got 914 votes out of 30K did I read that right? That does not seem very good to me am I missing something
She did persuade her state to replace a liberal incumbent Senator with an unknown conservative candidate in the GOP primary, that equals victory.
The establishment machine that you seem to be backing, endorsed the primary loser when she mounted a write in campaign, they let her keep her committee and power, which let her pull votes from all elements of the vote that was not specifically conservative, Democrats, and very moderate Republicans.
It is your right though to hope for her victory.
Her home state’s in the bag for old-man Murkowski and the rest of that thugocracy. Sarah cleaned up the state and the high and mighty she toppled have been trying to get even with her ever since.
Every write-in ballot should be counted to the letter of Alaksan law, but will they follow Alaskan law to the letter?
I have serious doubts about it. Blue Mosse has enlightened me.
She did persuade her home state to vote Miller in the primary over Murk who was favored to win in a landslide. Sarah’s positive influence has already been established even if Miller ultimately loses. Sarah took Miller from certain doom to a contender. Yes its better for Palin if Miller wins, but not a big loss if he doesn’t given what she has already accomplished.
You got that right, now you know what this war is about, the Palin/conservative portion of the GOP versus the Romney/liberal portion of the GOP.
My rough map shows Miller needs 15K of the remaining 22K votes to win. Not looking good at all.
oops I mean math not maps. :)
lol!
The conclusions that people just leap to around here are simply amazing sometimes. Just enter the name 'Palin' into a discussion, and otherwise good rational people turn into zombies of sorts. Can she do no wrong? Has she EVER done anything wrong in your opinion? I've been around 0bama supporters who act similar whenever you say anything about him, even SLIGHTLY negative.
Have the Miliatry votes been counted and is Lizza going to challenge them over some kind of technicality?
I’ll take this thread on it’s own, when you post as you are on this thread, and make it clear that you are reveling in a Miller defeat to the establishment candidate Murkowski, then that is how it will be taken.
You are as you post.
The write in ballots marked Miller they should go in the Miller column. The Lt. Governor said they will not count them. Huh?
I wouldn't be a bit surprised if she did. The military are the first thrown under the bus whenever the power of a politician is in jeopardy.
There's no excuse at all for what we do to our military when it comes to voting. We could easily setup a system where each service member is given a PIN number, or some other unique identifier and allow them to vote online. Such a system would probably even cost less than how it is being handled today, and there would be little potential for fraud if done properly.
Update, 4:07 p.m.:
There’s a new batch of statewide numbers. The state now reports having counted over 14,000 absentee and early ballots today.
Miller has gained a little bit of ground since the last absentee count. He now has 12,218 fewer votes than the write-in ballots.
That means he’s picked up 1,221 votes so far in today’s count.
There should be around 8,000 more absentees left to count today if the Division of Elections sticks to its original plan of counting about 22,000 of the absentee/early votes today.
There were a total of more than 30,000 of such ballots received by the state. More absentee counts will be held next week.
how can overtake Cow getting only that many votes?...he needed to take a vast majority of absenttes..to the tune 2/3 of the votes and then still hope he has a few of the write ins...
“Not enough of a gain after 30%+ counted. Still, we wait and hope for the best.....”
Maybe but then there are the 30,000.00 absentee ballots..........military maybe...
yes...he needs 75% of those absentees and he’s not getting them....I don’t how plainer it could be...
I can't believe after all the hyping about the military ballots that it has come to this..hardly a blip...
Yabut, I thought there were a hundred different "write-in" splitting that vote.
Hate to burst your bubble but you don’t know how many of the writeins are a) valid and b) if valid, were cast fr Murkowski.
I know how happy you would both be to see Miller defeated because you think it would derail Palin.
It won’t.
Bad news. With a 6% difference to make up, that won’t be enough of a trend.
why is that stupid?
Hey doufous, I want Miller to win as much as anyone else. It’s not my problem that math is not your strong point.
but he needed a huge uptick in these absentees and he's not getting it....
if with the absenttees counted, and he manages to get 3000 more votes than Cow, he still needs at least 10,000 write ins to go his way or a combination for Cow not getting them, the rat getting them or them being disqualified...
I don't understand this jubilation over Joe getting a head by 900 votes with almost the third of the absentee gone thru...period.

For the same reason that saying so many of DeMint’s chosen candidates lost - including in his home state of SC (Barrett) and region (Raese)- is somehow proof he can’t convince enough people of his ideas to win a national backing (Buck lost, DeVore lost, Barrett lost, O’Donnell lost, Angle lost, Romney lost in 2008, Rossi lost, Lamaontagne lost, etc.)
Clearly, in spite of the many losses, DeMint’s stock is going up as a whole. Same with Palin.
One loss in Alaska to someone campaigning on bringing home pork (not to a Democrat, mind you) after many victories is hardly a body blow.
Of course, I suspect that yet another victory would have meant nothing to you, anyway........
yes, but they’ve counted about 12,500 so far and he got 1200, right?
We don’t know how many of the “write in” votes are for the COW...so, it’s really impossible to say how many votes Joe needs.
You assuming that the cow doesn't get any of the remaining 16,061 votes that didn't vote for Miller. As much as I do not want to admit it, this race is over.

Hear, hear!
Only trouble is, an internet voting system would be insecure - if not in the vote count, in the secrecy of the ballot. I wouldn't want to be in the military and have my CiC know that I voted against him . . .
Alaska Freeper ping! Hi Alaska friends! I sure hope Miller pulls off a nice win when all the ballots are counted!
Is it that the overwhelming majority of absentee ballots are going to Murk, or they’re being disqualified?
Miller has gained over 1200 votes on Murkowski in the absentee ballots that have been counted so far today that we’ve seen reported on. So he is getting more of them than Murkowski.
“Hey doufous, I want Miller to win as much as anyone else. Its not my problem that math is not your strong point.”
What has math got to do with it? You don’t know how many of those write-in votes are valid and and how many were for Murkowski.
“Its not my problem that math is not your strong point.”
Neither is logic yours, Carnak.
“Hey doufous, I want Miller to win as much as anyone else.”
Do you really? The silver lining for you Palin haters is that you think it will damage her. After she dragged Joe Miller across the finish line in the primary, against heavy odds, you compared her to a “loud mouth, late night TV huckster buffoon”:

“He ran against a loud mouth, late night TV huckster buffoon”
Which is pretty much my opinion of McCain’s biggest supporter.... Sarah Palin.
