Posted on 11/10/2010 8:49:37 AM PST by Senator Goldwater
On Thursday night, O'Reilly asked, as part of a show that would be seen by 5.5 million people: "Does sharia law say we can behead Dana Milbank?" He then added, "That was a joke."
The next night, O'Reilly read a complaint from one of his viewers, Heidi Haverlock of Cleveland, who said: "I thought the joke about whether sharia law would allow the beheading of the Washington Post guy was completely inappropriate."
O'Reilly replied: "Well, let me break this to you gently, Heidi. If Dana Milbank did in Iran what he does in Washington, he'd be hummus."
O'Reilly's on-air fantasizing about violent ends for me was precipitated by a column I wrote describing Fox News's election-night coverage as a victory party for the Republicans. This didn't strike me as a terribly controversial point, but it evidently offended O'Reilly. "He said there were no Democrats except for Schoen on," O'Reilly complained. "It was an outright lie."
That would have been an outright lie, except that I said no such thing. I wrote: "To be fair and balanced, Fox brought in a nominal Democrat, pollster Doug Schoen. 'This is a complete repudiation of the Democratic Party,' he proclaimed."
Though I didn't claim Schoen was the sole Democrat, in hindsight I should have quoted other putative liberals who appeared on Fox that night - and sounded much like Schoen. There was Bob Beckel, proclaiming: "I feel like the blind guy whose guide dog died" and "I give all the credit to Republicans on this." Or Juan Williams on President Obama: "I just don't think he gets it."
O'Reilly has every right to quarrel with my opinion or question my accuracy. But why resort to intimidation and violent imagery?
Let's drop the thuggish tactics - before more people get hurt.

Are libs really this stupid?
Oh, journalist.....never mind.
I dare you to say that to an Imam.
Islam is a religion of peace, and Moslems reserve the right to kill anyone who implies otherwise.
To be fair and balanced O’Reilly should have identified someone on the other side to turn into hummus too.
My opinion: O’Reilly should learn to refuse to take the bait and not allow himself to always get drawn into squabbles with these insignificant little pipsqueaks.
The left does this all day long. They only get pissy when someone does it to them. Besides, Bill said it was a joke. A poor taste joke, kind of funny but definitely poor taste.
Isn’t that guy due to go into supercuts? No, not the one in the mosque.
Dana, you ignorant slut (yes, I know Dana is a guy, but the appellation still applies), how hypocritical for you to claim O’Reilly took your statement incorrectly and/or out of context while blasting him for saying something perfectly correct: if you lived in Iran, that would certainly be a past-tense condition.
“Let’s drop the thuggish tactics - before more people get hurt.’
Libs love to call for censorship. They don’t think people should be allowed to even use a violent metaphor, even as a joke.
This is why people think libs are jerks.
"Does sharia law say we can behead Dana Milbank?" He then added, "That was a joke."What's the matter Dana, you know it's true but you're afraid if you publicly admit it you might be beheaded?
Who the heck is Darnell Milbank?
I wonder if Millbank is OK with:
MSNBC Host Calls for Revolution: Real Change Perhaps Through Violence
why resort to... violent imagery?
I guess Dana thinks that people getting hurt in hunting accidents is funny.
Dana Milbank has a head? Who’d ‘ve guessed it?
Bring me the head of Dana Milbank
And where was Dana during the years of Bush-Hitler commentaries and imagery?
Never heard of him...before this.
Sharia law,I don’t know why but something about separation of church and state comes to mind.
Weak, weak, weak. Lilly-livered, limp-noodle weak.
