WASHINGTON -The Pentagon said Tuesday it did not know what created a vapor trail that crossed the skies off the Southern California coast and resembled a missile launch. Video posted on the CBS News website shows an object flying through the evening sky Monday that left a large contrail, or vapor trail. A news helicopter owned by KCBS, a CBS affiliate in Los Angeles, shot the video. Pentagon officials were stumped by the event. "Nobody within the Department of Defense that we've reached out to has been able to explain what this contrail is, where it came from," Pentagon spokesman Col. Dave Lapan said. While the vapor cloud captured on video resembled that created by a rocket in flight, military officials said they didn't know of any launches in the area. Lapan said that "all indications" were that the Defense Department was not involved with the object. One expert called it an optical illusion. "It's an airplane that is heading toward the camera and the contrail is illuminated by the setting sun," said John Pike, director of the U.S.-based security analyst group globalsecurity.org. The North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, issued a statement jointly with the U.S. Northern Command, or NORTHCOM, saying that the contrail was not the result of a foreign military launching a missile. It provided no details. "We can confirm that there is no threat to our nation," the statement said. "We will provide more information as it becomes available."

“more information as it becomes available”. That’s really not what I want to hear.
Are we absolutely sure it's not an old video?? That's one thing I can think of that would cause the resulting "no show on radar" or sighting by other planes.
I remember years back about war using holograms (sp???). Could this be an example?

I finally saw the video last night. Several times.
It is a simple aircraft contrail. Contrails are a “hobby” of mine. I’ve seen lots like this one. The stills REALLY look like a contrail, and the video even confirms it. You can even see the sun shining off the bottom of the plane. Evening contrails are usually the prettiest.
I’ve also seen planes shining like that with no contrail. They are harder to spot, for obvious reasons.
The only puzzling thing about this is that early reports suggest that someone in an official government capacity was claiming something was launched 35 miles off the coast. That is the part of this story that is “odd”.

Add to that the radar cop I passed this morning, and the security door that “coincidentally” would not work this morning. I think it’s all pretty clear what’s going on here!
I’m also not getting any responses to my messages to the home world. That one is really freaking me out because if I don’t get off this stinking planet by mid-January, I’m toast along with the rest of yous!

Fire them all and get someone in there who knows and cares.
And, I’m sure that the radar systems that blanket each city in the US for aircraft traffic control, and security, have no image; cannot identify the speed; cannot tell the tragectory; and cannot identify the planes transponders; and have no record of a pilot asking for takeoff clearance.
