Waiting for Senator McCain (NYT pines for maverick McCain to stab conservatives)
The New York Times ^ | 2010-11-11

(snip)

Mr. McCain, who previously expressed support for repeal providing that it had the military leadership’s approval, should listen. His clout could be decisive. Failure to enact repeal would be a personal rebuff to troops now serving in two wars. It would also fly in the face of the public’s overwhelming support of repeal.

(snip)

Senator McCain has a chance to do right by the military and country he championed as a war hero. He should find a reasonable way to forgo a filibuster and end this grave injustice.

LOL!
I doubt there are more than a handful of non-sodomites in the entire New York Times building.

Maverick Johnnie does what’s good for Maverick Johnnie.

He has no intention of lashing himself to the mast of the sinking USS OBAMA. He’s loudly and publicly distancing himself from the sinking wreck so as not to get pulled under.

It would also fly in the face of the public’s overwhelming support of repeal.

If the public overwhelmingly supports repeal, why didn't the Democrats in Congress repeal it and then run for re-election on this grand accomplishment?

Why give the NYT hits, in order to read the meat of the article?

He's threatening to filibuster the Penetgon's spending bill unless the part calling for a repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell” is removed.

GOOD on him for that. ALL the Republicans should filibuster the bill.

DUH and that’s why the first paragraph would have sufficed.

Oh and BTW, McCain wouldn’t be backstabbing “conservatives” - it’s the troops and military who will be undermined by the repeal of DTDT.

FYI - Slimebag sell-outs Mullins and Gates are the ones pushing the repeal, not McCain. Get yourself a life.

It’s funny how public opinion matters to the NYT in this case, but not when it comes to gay marriage where they’d have the courts impose gay marriage over the objection of the public.

Please put DADT in the headline parenthetical comments on things like this.

Anyhow, “grave injustice” my foot — it’s a matter of survival. Last time a major world military power had buggery it also had rum and the cat to control chaos. I don’t think McCain would want those back too, would he? Find a way that openly “out” gays can assist in the war effort, if they wish — but bunking them among straights isn’t it.

So, let me rightly understand--the military spending bill contains the "poison pill" of DADT repeal? Is that it?

Meaning that filibustering this bill denies funding to the troops? Have I got that right, or did I miss something?

Thanks!

That's awesome.

The MSM is counting on the manufactured image of Juan to come to their rescue, not realizing that Juan's manufactured image has been re-manufactured to be pro-Tea, insomuch as such a thing is possible.

And now they pine for the pre-re-manufactured Juan, and the imaginary gravitas which he supposedly possessed, but was actually just loaned to him by President #45, Sarah (Connor) Palin.

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

Had McCain made it to the White House not only would DADT be history but Cap-and-Trade would be law.

If he doesn’t find a way to cave on this, I’ll be shocked.

If a number of his personal friends in the Senate go overboard without him, I’ll just accept that the fix was in and John drew the long straw this time.

Sarah (Connor) Palin

lol -- I thought she is the love-child of Theodore Roosevelt out of Annie Oakley, and the lineal descendant of Mollie Pitcher and Joan of Arc.

Did I get it wrong?
