You are right; however, nothing is an accident with Google. The placement of the American flag over the “E” is obvious even if Google thinks it is being subtle.

Then the flag should be well above the logo so the “e” is completely visible. This is a very poorly created graphic. I don’t know about a crescent or scythe, but it does look hastily created as if Google was not aware of Veterans Day.

I don’t know anyone that is more Anti Google than I am - - but this is quite a stretch. I looked up their normal logo and that E is normal. I see where you are going with this, but it’s still too much of a stretch for me.

That’s the lower portion of the ‘e’, which is red, that the flag flying off of the ‘l’ is covering.
It can’t be a flag, because the shape is wrong considering flapping of the American flag.
If it was some sort of symbol the only one, I think, it could be would be the red crescent of the crescent & star from Islam.

I associate the poppy with Nov 11 as do our British, AUS, NZ and Canadian friends. They could have done a very attractive title bar with that theme.

What we have here is the American flag, backlit by a rising sun — representing the Arisen Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ — effectively eclipsing the crescent moon of Islam, appropriately signifying (on the day we commemorate the service and sacrifice of our veterans) that, through such further sacrifice, we will eventually prevail over Islamic terrorism.
